MJ tells fan he's releasing singles but not albums because "CD's old", lol?

I didn't wanna add the 100th reply to the million Michael threads here so I'll add this. Y'all can ignore it if you want but I'm hearing that Michael told "this fan" that he was planning on releasing a series of singles but not an album because "CDs are going out of style".

Can I get this clear: wasn't he the guy who saved the record stores and allowed vinyls to keep on going before it was truly out of fashion for CDs? What gives here, Michael?

Some fans have said this is unconfirmed but this is confusing since it's coming from supposedly Michael's mouth.

You think he's "with (today's scene)" or is he playing a dangerous game? LOL

Hmmm.... Unless there is a source, and confirmation for this supposed "conversation" between MJ and this fan, I am not sure what to believe....

That's exactly why I posted that question mark in front of this topic for. Like "what the fuck is going on over there?"

First the Thriller Redux album now this?

All the independent artist who aren't bound by record companies are doing this, it's very smart business. The days of releasing whole "albums" are about to go way and return to the days of singles like it was in the 50s and 60s

Well mainly any artist not bound to a label can just do what they want, release a single track or 10 albums at once, i dont think the days of an album are gone, in terms of labels, "album artists" are pretty much a thing of the past, i mean if you take all the artists that have come out in the soundscan era (1991) which was 16 years ago, with the exception of Pearl Jam and a few others, who even has a catalog of albums? So with a label i wouldnt be surprised to see these one "ringtone" wonders just do that, and never release a record.

I got pissed at the MJJC because people were all like "oh he's an innovator" and "let him follow his heart". It was great when we ventured off topic and talk about the joys of CDs and vinyls while bitching about how to hear MP3s. lol

What the fan said could be very true since raymone bain already stated that Mj will release 3-4 singles prior to the album release but this fan saying that there would be no Album at all which is a bit confusing.....anyway

Im saying that only time will tell, we don't know any details yet , we have to wait and see what happens , I think the details will reveal soon.

Fact of the matter is that CDs, as well as music videos, are going out of style, if not now, not too long from now. Everybody in the music biz, including MJ, is looking for that next brillant idea to market music and jump on that bandwagon, much like the Beatles did with lps/albums in the 60s, MJ did with the music video. I hear people on here talk about how "lazy" artist are for not putting out new material, it's not about laziness, it's really about profit and also politics which I don't want to discuss. Figure Prince, he has release tons of material, but that doesn't compare to the number of unreleased (aka non-profitable) material he has, it's out there but you won't get to hear it.

Because I'll be pinned like a donkey at MJJC. I curse more here too. I'm not really allowed to do that at MJJC. I'm just a different animal here. shrug

Saw the box set at lunchtime and it looks very nice nod Lots of killer tunes and from what I can gather there is the single and maybe another song on one side and then a DVD video on the other. I'm actually surprised by it nod

Half good as in "ok, cool, he's independent, he can do it" and half bad because "where's the album?" lol

I honestly think the trial held him back. I just hope for an album to come out. The way things are going on, he's giving people mixed signals. It's like he's moonwalking back and forth in his career (to RQ, I said this in MJJC, go see 4 urself, the "animal" is coming out... nWo cool ).

Oh ok, it's worth it. But it's a shame because many of the "Thriller" outtakes could've been put on the 11-track, disc 2 on the set. If he had done that, I wouldn't be like confused @ the "Thriller Redux" but for those who weren't deep into MJ like that, it's great for you to get. Hopefully it'll go to Michael's money pocket. wink

Ain't that a bitch? lol A lot of issues has gotten in the way of Michael doing music. A whole lot and I was there through it all, man. What a weird saga this has been, huh? No pun intended, Mike.

I don't think it was the trial. Wasn't a real album supposed to be out in 2003 when those plans got scrapped and MJ & Sony went for Number Ones instead?

It was in our employee store downstairs smile I had no idea this was even out there and went to lunch, checked it out and then there is a thread about it lol I'll get pics tomorrow and a detailed listing of what is in there. I think there might have been a couple of gooses for my taste but most everything was just killer MJ stuff nod

Oh yeah, that's right! The Resurrection album! That was the one that supposedly had "Xscape" in. When word came that that song was leaked, Mike and whoever was in his management team at the time pulled the plug on it. And then instead of that album (which also was supposed to feature Lenny Kravitz on guitar on one track), Mike decided to go with a hits album and Michael's fans were freaking the fuck out! falloff

I tried to be the consoler there but there was no consoling. And then of course what happened happened.

I have no idea what happened with that album. I think it was the one time, from what I hear, that MJ acted like Prince in freaking out about the song leak.
