This was the last of the great 70's Stevie albums I bought. I was initially disappointed with it, but after some time I found it really growing on me.
I guess I thought it felt a little dull & disjointed. But in the end, the quality of the songs is still amazing. My Legacy

This and Talking Book are my fave from Mr.Morris.
Loooooved his use of the steel guitar in Too Shy To Say Another reason why this album gets so much love from me is because of the contribution from the soprano divas(Minnie, Syreeta, Deniece, Lani)

I remember getting this album and saying "He did "Creeping"???? The amazing moods from the gentle somber "Too Shy To Say" The bitter tone in "It Aint No Use" The clav gospel of Heaven is Ten Zillion Light Years Away; perhaps, his most indepth and emotional album ever; he definitely spoke from the heart here At this point in history, we have a choice to make

The cut I'm feeling right now from this album is: It Ain't No Use "We still are young and both of us have time To find our winter love in spring Yes we know the truth It ain't no use, we're not each other's ev'rything"... (So we must say bye..goodbye) (Bye-bye, bye-bye-bye)... ...So long ba-by bye bye baaby.

Smile Please...the background chorus and the arrangement is the reason I fell in love with this song.
Also It Ain't No Use,and, and, and .....oh EVERTHING!!!!I like all the songs on here.

My fave part is the way he sings "We tried our best to make it work but it seems we just can't get it together" Looks like nothing on the page but listen to the way he molds that line..ending with the way he sings the word "together" Straight soul!!! IT Ain't No Use brings me to tears. It's the ultimate break up song. It hurts especially when you know your relationship has reached it's end.

A perfect album
I love love love "It Ain't No Use," but I think the most underrated gem on this album is "Please Don't Go." "Smile Please" is definitely a great way to start an album, but "Please Don't Go" is an even better way to end it. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I guess I thought it felt a little dull & disjointed. But in the end, the quality of the songs is still amazing. I've never been able to entirely shake off that feeling of it being a bit dull. Having said that, it has some astonishing songs in there like "They Won't Go When I Go", 'It Ain't No Use", and "Creeping". Overall, it's clear Stevie was at the peak of his powers. It's amazing how in the zone he was at that time. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Oh, I think it's better than Talking Book. The impact of his near-fatal accident is felt in every song. It's hard to argue against this album being his most emotional. He'd never been more spiritual ("Heaven Must Be 10 Zillion Light Years Away" and "They Won't Go When I Go"), more resolute ("It Ain't No Use"), more desperate ("Please Don't Go") or more sensual ("Creepin') -- and he certainly tore Nixon a new one. In "He's Misstra Know-It-All" he called Tricky Dick a liar and some other names, but this time he basically said, "You ain't done shit." It gets knocked a little for not having a theme, but I think you can see the beginnings of Songs in the Key of Life, like a prequel of sorts. That's cool. It's not like you can go wrong with any of them. I just think the overall poignant vibe makes it gel more than Talking Book. Basically, every song boils down to Stevie saying, "Life's too short, so let me get this off my chest." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Basically, every song boils down to Stevie saying, "Life's too short, so let me get this off my chest." I hadn't considered that as a theme of the album before. Actually FFF is more fresh to me at this point than Talking Book, since the songs on TB get more play. Like Superstition--one of the most classic pop cuts ever--has just about been done to death. Likewise, Sunshine of my Life. Big Brother will never get old to me, though! But FFF keeps getting better. I've had it for ten years now, but it feels new compared to his others (I was 4 in 1976 when my parents bought Songs in the Key of Life!) [Edited 12/6/07 10:32am] My Legacy
