Endless Love. Lionel or Luther? Which version is better? Lionel and Diana or Luther and Mariah?
I vote for Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross. I never dug the original and Luther's voice is so heavenly [Edited 11/24/07 17:05pm]

for me the original of a song is always better, especially in a case where the original performer is the writer, Mariah and Luther did good, but it wasnt the "original" and that is always the best thing with a song. Im not against covers, but you cant top an original feeling. Why is Mariah Carey's name being listed when the remake for "Endless Love" was on Luther Vandross' album "Songs?" THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. Luther was the master of the remakes (A House Is Not A Home, Superstar, Love Won't Let Me Wait, etc.), but when he did the CD Songs, it didn't grab me at all. Lionel and Diana version hands down!

Which ever comes prepackaged with a fully-loaded.45 pistol so I can blow my brains out if I hear anybody singing that absolutely dreadful song! test

Because she sang on the covered rendition Neither for me, its a sappy trash that I could just imaging hearing in the background of Dynasty or Dallas

Chaka Khan, The Bangles, Cyndi Lauper and Sinead O Connor all disproved that myth when they recorded vastly superior covers of Prince songs. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Neither for me, its a sappy trash that I could just imaging hearing in the background of Dynasty or Dallas Actually, Mariah Carey sang the co-lead of a song Luther Vandross used for HIS album. Anyway, I agree with you on "Endless Love." I wish someone had burned that crap before Lionel Richie took it into the studio. That sellout song is the primary reason I can't stand to listen to him outside of what he did with The Commodores. Luther and Mariah's cover is better IMO, I can at least appreciate the song itself. When I hear the original, all I think of is the movie, which sucked.

That's what I'm saying. And that movie was even worse.

And FWIW, I felt Luther Vandross did much better covers than "Endless Love:"
* "A House Is Not a Home" * "Superstar/Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" * "If This World Were Mine" * "Since I Lost My Baby" * "If Only for One Night/Creepin'" * "Bad Boy" * "Anyone Who Had a Heart" * "Love Won't Let Me Wait" (though I like Major Harris' version better) Even some of his later covers such as "The Closer I Get to You" and "Knocks Me Off My Feet" were stronger, more sincere efforts. I felt the "Songs" album and some of his early to mid-1990s covers were some of his most watered-down work. There's no comparison. The original version is superior.Luther was a master at remaking songs, but he failed with this one."Endless Love" is one of those songs that didn't need a remake.Lionel and Diana Ross already made the definitive version.

dag & TotalAlisa. Lionel and Diana's duet is boring and soulless. I'm not feeling it. Plus I've never liked Diana Ross.
