The Smiths

Hey hey. NWF here. I just wanna ask the .orgers out there if they admire one of the greatest Alternative bands to come out of the U.K. ever, The Smiths. What are peoples thoughts on Morrisey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, & Mike Joyce? Is'nt "The Queen is Dead" one of the greatest albums ever? I sure do think so. Any comments? Peace

"And when you want to live
how do you start?
where do you go?
who do you need to know?"

I've been tired this last years with the "no ones loves me" Morrissey's shit but he's one of the greatest.

The Smiths were one of the greatest bands EVER!!!

Morrissey's lyrics were always very poetic and brilliant and Johnny Marr's guitar playing was inspired and pure genius.

The Smiths will always be one of my favorite bands!

Ice, I've read an interview of Frank Black in the early 90s in which he told that he wanted to write songs for/ with Morrissey, unfortunately many years ago he has joked about Mozz & bashed him just for fun, then Morrisseys management answered him that Mr Blue wasn't interested... rolleyes

There is a great dance/ pop song that I love "Walking Down Madison" by the late Kirsty Mc Coll, music by Johnny Marr.

The Smiths were and will always be one of my favorite bands. Johnny Marr is such a creative guitarist -- his work with The The and Electronic was great too.

Wow. I could've created this thread myself. I sort of did a little while ago- called "What's New?" I'm just discovering this band now. Which surprises me that I haven't given them more attention before because I like several other bands from that era- Cure, New Order, Joy Division, etc. I've had some of their albums for years but never gave them enough time. But lately, they're all I've been listening to. They were very unique. I love Morrissey's voice and unique point of view on everything. His whole thing about being a hopeless romantic and celebate is very intriguing. What does the guy want? I really want to get "Louder Than Bombs" soon.

"Louder Than Bombs" is a great compilation with classics like "Ask" and my favourite "Stretch Out And Wait", did you know that in 1993 Prince and Morrissey were supposed to meet for a collaboration?...

"Ask" is my favorite song right now! I love singing that one. "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" is another of their best. No, I never knew about that collaboration. What do you know about it? Did it ever take place?

Nah , maybe phone calls
At this time they had a mutual colaborator in the music business
Prince was at some music awards in LA waiting for Mozz but Morrissey was ill then and he didn't come.
So the meeting, as I know, didn't take place... I remember buying the NME and have seen the title "sexy mozzer fucker" or something like this...,
It could have been an incredible duet:
Mr "Unlovable" + Mr "Extralovable" ( well, I only know the title) together...

But, isn't "Animal Kingdom" Prince's "Meat is Murder" ?

Count me in as a big Smiths fan too! Sadly, I don't own any of their albums (I plan on changing that fact soon, good reminder!) but my friend was playing one of their compliations recently and I could sing just about every song word for word. Yay! I love the Smiths!

heart the smiths heart

One of my all time favorite bands! Johnny Marr's guitar is ALWAYS amazing and Morrissey's voice is gorgeous. Then there's the lyrics, true poetry...

I liked early Morrissey but have given up on his stuff in recent years. A 40+ year old crooning away about being unloved is nowhere near as attractive as a 20+ year old crooning away...

Tron- GET LOUDER THAN BOMBS!!!

Carrie- Whatevs, you should have jumped on this train a looong time ago!

jnoel..."walking down madison"!!! I forgot ALL about that track- I was in LOVE with that track! I'll have to find it somewhere...

yay! yay! yay!

I WILL! It's just that every place around here has it for 18 bucks and I refuse to pay that much for a new cd. I might have to go out of town to find it for a reasonable price.

And I wish Prince and the Mozz had gotten it together. Another great missed opportunity. I'm still waiting to hear those infamous collabos with Miles and Bowie.

Here is a standard Morrissey lyric:
