I remember Papa John going on the Stern show and performing 'Kokomo' for Howard & Robin. When he left, the Stern crew was like, "Has Papa John lost his damn mind?" Everyone had to eat major crow when the song shot to Number 1.

For me, Kokomo is not a comeback, is just the opposite: their epitaph.
Anything they did after that hit is just crap, from silly covers (like Crocodrile rock ) to the worst album of the 90's (Summertime in Paradise ) Kokomo is a nice summer-hit (though is clearly dated with some of worst aspects of the late-80's production)

pacey68 said: I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the latterday Beach Boys 'classic' hit, 'Wipe Out', in collaboration with those masters of rap, the Fat Boys. . As if to balance the Brian-less 'Kokomo', rumour has it that the only Beach Boy who actually appears on 'Wipe Out' is Brian. It certainly sounds like him.
Or worse still, their 1996 collaboration with Status Quo on a version of "Fun, Fun, Fun". I vaguely recall a live concert video of this single featuring all the surviving Beach Boys including Brian, their last appearance together perhaps?[/quote] I think I had managed to expunge that particular latter-day Beach Boys memory from my mind. And now it's all come back .
