That's quite good. It starts off a bit insipid and mawkish imo with synths that sound like those from the intro of 'The Show Must Go On' (I love 'Show', but that was 1991. Can't they afford newer synths or something?), but then it swells into an almost typical soaring Queen-style power ballad, with some great grandstand playing from Brian May. Paul Rogers sounds good on the track, better than May and Taylor. I can still easily imagine Freddie laying the vocal for this one down tho. I hope this line-up do more stuff, say a new album, if it's good, and they're not just reheating old glories.. I'm rather ambivalent tho about May and Taylors's continued use of the 'Queen' name and brand. I'm not one of these people who thinks Freddie was the be all and end all of Queen, as they all contributed heavily in all departments, but there's only two 'original' members now - Freddie's long gone and John Deacon decided to retire several years ago. It's rather like Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr going on the road with a new lead guitarist and rhythm guitarist and calling themselves the Beatles . Part of me would prefer them to use a new name for this band, but obviously the Queen name/ brand is where the money is - as if they need it . Still, it's always good to hear a nice new Brian May solo soaring overhead. | |
