Can we please discuss the Keyshia Cole Show??

Damn, i'm surpised no one ever talks about it. Did you guys see last night's episode? It was out of control. I commend Keyshia for being brave enough to let us into her world but her family issues are crazy. Her sister is actually worse than the mother in some ways. Her sister's husband cheated on her with her cousin and Neffe (keyshia's sister) was trying to get him back but after he clearly had no interest, she went off on him in the street and in front of their children. Why do you think they let us see all of this? It is truly shocking but i hope it all works out for Keyshia. Now Keyshi'a trying to find out who her real father is. Maybe they should go on Maury?! biggrin I have respect for her trying to rebuild her relationship with her mother.

What do you guys think of the show?

Yeah this show is the 'realest' reality show bar none. Strangely enough Keyshia comes off very good. Despite her family drama. Maybe that is the point of the show for Keyshia. She is using her ignorant family members to make her look better.

Exactly and this is why i would rather see Patti Labelle talking about things like this rather than Celine Dion's ass. I mean lets be real look at the shows that have come out, DMX,Lil Kim, Keyshia Cole,Irv Gotti etc.. and im sure next will be some sort of Foxxy Brown show, doesnt anyone see the issue that most of these shows are about jail, getting out of jail etc..And this is in most cases BET doing it, it almost seems like Tavis Smiley is the only one that calls bullshit like this out.

Although not music related, another one of their programming gems, the American Gangster series. disbelief

A series on successful Black people who achieved their goals through hard work & education must've been totally out of the question. confused

Eductated black people are threats, who wants to see them?

Whats that old plantation saying? "Teach an ignorant nigga how to read and he won't be happy?" something to that effect. So nobody want to even support that notion.

The black man takes control when he's educated,,,,whats more of a threat than that to the establishment?

Exactly Tavis gets put in a box of "hes not black enough" or "hes acting white" really? being educated and smart is only a white thing? it kills me that statements like that by others in Black Media are not treated just the same as Don Imus saying "ho"

Screw these networks (BET/VH1) for creating and keeping crap shows like these on. It really is a slap in the face that BET removed all intelligent programming that required any sort of process of thought and continues to come up with these shows. Meanwhile Tavis comes on at 12:30 in the morning for thirty measly minutes. It so blatantly reveals what they think of their viewership. It also appears that with over 20 years in existence BET has no intention of growing beyond what it is. But there's a strong audience for it so they'll keep doing what they're doing because the voices that complain are outnumbered and can quite easily turn the channel. As with most of Viacom, I turned and never looked back.

falloff Let me just say this - while I cringe @ some of the aspects of the show & don't like Keyshia's music I do appreciate that as a family they're trying to become healthier people & work on their issues. It may all be fake & for the camera but it's more worthwhile than watching I Love NY & whatever else a lot of people are watching (probably some of YOU! lol ). I think there's something so be said for trying to better your life & change your patterns of destruction, even if folks dismiss you as a simple "hoodrat" who doesn't deserve the time of day. neutral I'll probably never buy a record of hers, but I do wish her all the best in terms of striving to be a better person & understand her family dynamics (from what I've seen)...

confused

What expectations do you have for HER behavior?

Is it the same as "Being Bobby brown"? I would say NO. I think that was simply the glorification of drug addicts who had no intent of getting it together. I don't see this glorification of a negative lifestyle in this Keyshia Cole show.

As Cal said, there is this aspect of Keyshia's show that you see that there is some battle with making things better and right. The one thing I can see that Keyshia is doing is TRYING and trying to get her family on track.

So she maybe a hoodrat, ignorant and all of that but I will her some credit on TRYING without any real support from family and obviously from others. She knows that her family is messed up and that her past wasn't ideal for anyone.

I don't think there's anything wrong on putting a light on what drug use, abuse, neglect can do to a family as long as you can see some outcomes.

But, here's the thing....."SHE SUCKS AS A SINGER!!!!" Her look is....ugh! And, well, it's not like she does any of the work besides struggling to hit "ANY" and "EVERY" note in a song that she "SUPPOSEDLY" sings. I mean, she even struggles in the studio. I know there are other that can't sing. But, "GOOD GOD!!!!" Other than that, her show isn't anything I'd sit down and watch, so....."MEH!!!" neutral

I was just saying this yesterday...Keyshia show is real.. No glossy bullshit here... she's really brave for tackling the issues that she does..drug and alcohol abuse, her mother's release from jail, letting us in on their therapy sessions..,

Question: Mario just did a show, documenting his mother's addiction battle and what he had to go through. Hoodrat?

There's the show intervention documenting what a family goes through dealing with a family member who is addictive.

I just get a different take on the show.

I'm not so quick also to call everyone from the hood a "hoodrat" or "chickhead" based on what their life had been. I think watching the show. I don't think she's as much as a "hoodrat" as any other person dealing with childhood demons and trying to self correct in the best way possible.

As much as I don't like reality televsion, there is something to being transparent and sharing your story. The "keep ya business to ya self" stuff actually has done more harm in the black community than good. There are too many women who have been abused and victimized within their families and yet they "keep their business to themselves" because of the cultural of secrecy.

If this show was glorifying drug use and insane behavior, I would be the first to say its a mess BUT I can see that this isn't a "being bobby brown" show.

I'll give this so-called hoodrat, chickhead credit for TRYING to do better. What more can we ask of a person?
