Yep. Love em, want to keep loving them. But I'm afraid they are nothing more than a husk of their former selves. The new album has is moments, but it makes Amnesiac look like OK Computer.

I think the critics don't want to give up on them (hence the luke warm reviews), but at the back of their minds, they think the band has lost it, but don't want to admit it.

Lukewarm reviews? In Rainbows was one of the best reviewed albums of the year: http://www.metacritic.com...inrainbows

I have to agree, i think they are a band at a crossroads at this point, you have theings like "The Bends" "Ok Computer" and then Kid A, put they seem to be going in circles at this point not really sure where they are, i like some of "In Rainbows" and i feel its better than the previous, but Radiohead i feel is not really sure what they are at this point.

Listeners became accustomed to being challenged in new directions every new "era" but this time Radiohead just stayed in their lane, which to some fans/critics, is below their expectations.

In Rainbows is good though!

it's the old song. the band are too afraid to let a beautiful thing die a natural death.
Whatever they're doin', beating a dead horse or fondling a pretty corpse.

They should move on. lol
small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

first everyone started complaining when they ditched original song structure
and had all that glitch and weirdness going on.

then they slowly backtracked on HTTT and made a combination of both sounds,
taking it one step further on IR with gorgeous melodies and overall more of
the old radiohead with less electronics.

and guess what, now people are yelling they want to be challenged lol

i think thom got most of the glitch/weirdness out of his system when he did
his solo album (which is fucking brilliant, as is "spitting feathers" with
all the bsides from that project) and the band just wrote songs they could
all jam out on during the live shows.

i haven't listened to the new album nearly as much as i've listend to and
loved the others. it just strikes me as mildly strange that they would be
without a contract and hence free to release whatever they wanted to on a
new album.

for the first time they have complete carte blanche and then what do they
release? the album every major record company would have been glad to put
out there: beautiful songs, easy on the ear, great musicianship and a few
good commercial sounding songs to pull as singles.

that doesn't mean the album isn't good. not at all. the album is great. it
is just that i was expecting them to go completely nuts now and instead we
got a beautiful, well crafted album.

it might not have met my expectations completely but i still love it. and
especially since i got enough weird stuff to tie me over for a bit with
thom's solo album, this suits me just fine.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I haven't been feeling Radiohead since Kid A. I like that they're able to be commercially successful with the kind of material they're putting out, but I think they believe their own hype a little too much at times.
