Stevie Wonder Tribute Concert to feature Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake and Ja Rule...

Stevie Wonder's 2002 Walk Of Fame celebration for BET will include tributes and performances from Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, Ja Rule, India.Arie, Justin Timberlake, and others October 19 at BET's Studio II in Washington D.C. The taped program to be hosted by comedian Jamie Foxx will air October 29 at 9 p.m. on BET.

Jill Scott, Gerald Levert, Fred Hammond, Gerald Albright, and Chante Moore will also participate in the event, to benefit the United Negro College Fund. Previous honorees include Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Whitney Houston, Patti Labelle, Luther Vandross, and Diana Ross.

In a recent interview with Wonder, he discussed how it felt to have an impact on younger recording acts: "I listen to the people that say that they have been inspired by me, whether it be Glenn Lewis, or India or Alicia or whomever it might be, and you know, yeah, I hear a little me in there, and I like that. You know, we are all influenced by each other. I mean, believe me, I was influenced by Jackie Wilson, Donnie Hathaway, and some of the Beatles stuff, and we can go on and on and on. There are a lot of talented singers out there, and I think the great thing about music is that it is becoming universal. And that's good."

It would be nice if Prince could get in on this. Prince definitely admires Stevie. When Prince first came out, he was being compared to a young Stevie Wonder.

I think it would be good for Prince to start participating (on a limited basis) in industry events like this.

Money on Ja Rule singing a full rendition of "Overjoyed"? smile

Guess he'll just do that last single which samples Stevie...

Jodeci should use this event to get back in public eye before new album with their cover of "Lately".

I was thinking the same thing. BTW what's up with Justin and Ja Rule on the show? Does everything have to be about ratings?

Justin Timberlake?!

This could B as bad as the Michael Jackson honours.
I ain't knocking him, as :I: like Timberlake's solo stuff very much (sick I can't believe :I: just said that), but :I: don't think he is either old enough and/or knowledgable 2 appreciate the one and only Stevland Morris. At Least Ja Rule knows "Do I Do"!!!

If Prince wasn't overseas...nahhh. It wouldn't happen. But hell, his version of "Maybe Your Baby" would be (and is) the shit. Stevie would dig it too.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

funny you mention that because when Prince was going through His Camile-Speed Up Era I could Hear Him doing that Song.I dug His take on it back in 94.if He ever did that Mixed with "Expert Lover" that would be a tight Double Play IMHO.especially in the Sped up form.

I'm surprised that Carlos Santana will not be appearing. He adores Stevie and regularly performs the song "Another Star" during his own concerts.
