I can't believe that Najee is trying to jive me! They sure were! The Jacksons covered the Isley Brothers' "It's Your Thing" for the Miss Black America Pageant for their first televised performance in 1969.

Love em both but I think the Isley's would win. Just love the versatility of the Isley's and how they just adapted with changes in the musical landscape.
And yeah Ernie was and still is a beast on the guitar. Not many people know that he played a lot of bass and drums for the band as well. Sooooo underrated.

Really, though, what more is there to say except "Summer Breeze"? Jacksons got me some really cute kisses, hugs and grinds with "The Love You Save" and "Maybe Tomorrow", but I got full-blown road-head and motel sex off my 1976 Isleys lovetape. Ron Isley will get a brotha laid! i second that emotion. MY GAWD!!! lmao!!!!! THE B EST BE YOURSELF AS LONG AS YOUR SELF ISNT A DYCK[/r]

Uh, there is no choice to be made.
Jacksons = fun Isleys = HOT DAMN! Please! Easily...The Isley Brothers. Based on music alone, but they also rocked the glitter and fringe much better!

That comparison makes no sense...
Of course Isley Brothers

In some instances, some of the Isley Brothers songs WERE rock ("That Lady", "Tell Me When You Need It Again", their covers of "Spill the Wine", "Summer Breeze" and "Love the One You're With", "Lay-Away"). I go far to say they WERE a rock band as well as a funk band and a disco band (in the late-'70s) as well as a soul band and a doo-wop group. They were a lot of things during their incarnations even if their incarnations never gave them as much success as their 3+3 period did. When I think of The Isley Brothers and rock, the first songs that come to mind is "Livin' In The Life/Go For Your Guns" and "Live It Up". Although very funky as hell, they had a harder rock edge also. "Rockin' With Fire" is another one. . . [Edited 11/28/07 21:27pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Isleys of course! :hmm2:Now if you compared Earth Wind & Fire with the Isley Brothers that might lead to some interesting discussion.

I absolutely love the J5/Jacksons, but I'd pick the Isleys all the way. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Ya know!?! Maybe. It'd be a first round knockout for EWF in my book. (EWF would be doing the knocking out) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Overall, its a push in terms of catalog, but live Isleys were never as good as EWF. New tunes from either aren't very captivating test

I think that EFW was a better overall band but I prefer the Isleys.
