New BECK album! Just got done listening to the new Beck album, Sea Change. The entire thing is pretty down-beat, pretty melancholy...but melodic all the same. I'm pleased to see that Beck as usual is playing some original work that's very much off the beaten path.
On a related note, Beck has been compared to Prince a number of times, especially on his last work, Midnight Vultures. I find it interesting that Beck is able to record a very dark album, while it is seemingly against Prince's religion to touch anything negative anymore...I always liked the "dark" side of Prince, the cuss words too, and I think something's definitely missing since he turned so increasingly positive-only, Life has its dark side, and art reflects life, no? Fear is the mind-killer.

Hey I just got the new Beck cd used! Yes used for $8.99 at my local used cd store. If any of you are ever in Toronto check out Vortex on Yonge st. It's one of the best for used cd's. I couldn't believe it when I saw Beck there. I hope I like it.

Yeah, somebody sold it back, simply because it's not that good.

Not necessarily. I find all kinds of newer cd's in the used cd store and quite often I like them. I'm pretty sure I will like this one too because I am a Beck fan!

It sounds a lot like Mutations, which is one of my favorites. No upbeat tracks at all though, which would surely throw off some people who bought it thinking they were going to hear "Loser" or such sounds.Fear is the mind-killer.

The difference is Mutations is an enjoyable album, and this album while artistically decent, is not enjoyable. But that's just me...
Yeah kisscamille, I hear what you're saying. I bought a used CD one time of an album that had only been out for a couple of weeks, and bought it for 8.99. It was a good one too!

I've never gotten into Beck, until yesterday shortly after I downloaded the entire new cd. Needless to say, I'll be purchasing it the first opportunity I get. I love it...for what it is. Keep in mind that I'm not even a casual Beck fan. I've always THOUGHT he was probably doing something right, due to all of the positive things I've heard over the years from critics and other fans in general. So...I went into this cd with zero expectations, but I really love what I'm hearing.
A lot of the music reminds me of the early '70s Pink Floyd stuff like Meddle and Obscured By Clouds. No, I don't think Beck sounds at all like Waters or Gilmour, but I think a lot of the melodies and moods created on the cd are very Floydish. I guess I have some cd's to buy!!!

If it really sounds that much like Pink Floyd, that probably explains why I don't like it.

Anybody who can't appreciate a good Pink Floyd tune needs to have their fuckin' ears tuned!!!
I mean FUCK! Where do some of you people come from?!?! It don't get no better than a little Floyd!

You have some admirable picks on your list, though, but you're right, no clicking here. We both still appreciate THE MAN, however!!!

The new Beck album is a masterpiece; such beautiful songs, it is almost unbelievable. Imagine if Prince did an entire album of Beautiful Ones quality songs on a whole album? This is the album in a nutshell. The Rolling Stone 5 star review is no joke. This is complex and emotional and smart stuff from Beck. And it is good to see him write serious lyrics, for once. Sure the hell is better than the awful TRC. All you others say Hell Yea!!

It is a beautiful cd. You definitely have to focus on the lyrics and take some quiet time to listen to it without distractions.

I love it as well. I actually thought it was gonna be wack but Beck has always been consistent in delivering quality music. He's a genius. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
