If I Was Michael Jackson 2008-2009 If I Was Michael Jackson
by Jason (Me) This is somewhere between fan fiction and my wishes that MJ would get his shit together. For the past several months, whenever I think of Michael Jackson, I say the same thing to myself. "If I Was Michael Jackson things would be a lot different, as far as Michael's career was concerned." That being said, fans hold on to your fedoras and naysayers please don't jump my shit. I'd like everyone to read what I would do if by some science fiction miracle I was Michael Jackson, and please try to post your reactions to it, if it really happened. In the same way Adrian Grant's, "The Visual Documentary" had a day by day account of Michael's carrer, life and schedule, this is a month by month schedule of what would happen if I was Michael Jackson. January 2008 - March 2008 Michael Jackson spends this time with some vocal coaches and dancing coaches. He even invites Access Hollywood or one of those TV news magazine shows to film him practicing. He even clues them in on the fact - that he was working up to a performance sometime soon. He's just very vague as to when and where. Early April 2008: He starts recording a new album. He'd do whatever it took to work with Teddy Riley for half the album and Q for the other half. Also this month, He'd have his "team" get on the MJJ forums and invite the most loyal (and non crazy) fans to have seats to a private show for the fans only in June 2008. All profits would go to a charity and the fans could donate however much they wanted. At the show, he'd perform some of the hits, and some of the non-singles for the fans. Mid April 2008: He'd have a new website go live called MJJOfficial.com. He would film a video welcome message, have a photographer snap some exclusive photos, write some blogs once a week on his thoughts about art, music and life in general. Offer a new free forum and e-mail service. He'd even re-record an acapella version of one of his big hits for the fans to enjoy as an exclusive website download. On the website he would hint at news of a summer tour in the works. All the while, he'd continue work on the new album. He'd be spending most of his time between the new album and working up for the tour. May 2008: He'd show up on Ellen and even the Tyra Banks show, all within one week to announce a tour, starting June 1st. On both shows, He'd perform. He'd spend this whole month once again working on the album and getting ready for the tour. June - September: He'd kick off the upcoming tour with his FREE fan only event. After that, he'd perform on a tour of USA, Europe and a few Japan shows. October: He'd release the first single for the new album, and put together a concert in time for the night of Halloween. (Something about Michael Jackson, Thriller and Halloween just click.) This is where he would perform his NEW single for the first time, LIVE. November: He'd film a new music video at the start of the month, release the video, and release the new album at the end of the month. He'd also look into doing a Las Vegas show for next year. December: Release a second single. Announce that the proceeds from the second single (a slow song) would benefit a charity. December 31st, 2008: Appear on a New Years Eve special, perform and announce his plans for the Las Vegas show starting in June of 2009. January 2009: Move and get settled into Las Vegas. Begin work on the show. Hire a camera man to film the rehearsals and each Friday post 20 minutes of rehearsal footage on his website. February 2009: He would release the third single for the album. This would be be a faster song. The music video would feature a collage/collection of summer tour footage, mixed with Michael dancing on the Vegas stage, wherever he performs. At the end of the video, Michael would stop the song, (like in "Liberian Girl") and say, "I'll see you in Vegas at (wherever he is playing) this summer!" March - May: Work on the show and get it perfected. The last single from the new album would be released. It would be a radio only single. June: The first Las Vegas show would happen. The website would now feature behind the scenes footage of the rehearsals, TONS of it. It would also feature some clips of the actual performances. There would also be contests every month where 5 lucky fans would be picked, to be flown out to the Las Vegas show and given front row seats. FREE. July-October: Las Vegas November: This month would mark the year anniversary of the new album's release. Release a Special Edition of the new album, featuring a second disc that is a DVD of the 3 music videos, concert clips, and a new interview about what went into the making of the album. December: Release a DVD called "Live from Las Vegas" [Edited 11/25/07 11:39am] MJ Fan 1992-Forever

Just seems logical too. I would want to see MJ finishing off the show after seeing the likes of stevie wonder, diana ross, smokey robinson, debarge, four tops, temptations, lionel ritchie, jackson 5, dione warrick, boyz 2 men etc. and maybe tributes to marvin gaye and rick james.

i also wish he would get his shtuff 2gether. i hope he takes your advice. i'd throw in an all-acoustic show somewhere in a small joint with a tight band and a wise selection of tunes. [Edited 11/25/07 13:10pm]

These ideas are great. It seems as though you didn't give him too much time to record?

For once, I'd like him to deliver an album in a timely fashion. Not dick around and wait 5 years to make a record. That way, by the time the tracks come out, some will still sound current. As opposed to INVINCIBLE, half the album sounded like music from 1998, and it came out in 2001. MJ Fan 1992-Forever

All of that sounds great from a marketing standpoint.
But it's really the music he needs to focus on. He needs to ditch the hot producers. Or at least stop chasing whatever the "hot" sound is at the moment. The best stuff from Invincible (and to some extent HIStory) was when he just relaxed and didn't chase current, hip sounds or have rappers (living and dead) guest-starring on the records. Just take it easy and do some simple ballads. Do some mid-tempo and up-tempo stuff that doesn't sound like a barrage of sound effects from a Deathstar. You know? That's what he needs to focus on first and foremost, in my mind.

That new album he's working on,with songs produced by will.i.am? Throw it in the garbage.Ditch that project.
I think he should do an MTV Unplugged performance and release it on CD. But if he insists on making a new album,he should let Jamiroquai produce the uptempo tracks, and allow Robin Thicke to produce the ballads. 8 uptempo jams produced by Jamiroquai. 4 ballads/slow jams produced by Robin Thicke. Jamiroquai is making the type of disco/funk music that MJ should be doing. No hip- hop posturing,no rappers...just solid, funky jams.

Why does everyone think they know how to manage Michael Jackson's career?!?
Michael Jackson did not become the legend he is by taking advice from fans. Michael Jackson is a legend because he keeps you wanting more. Michael Jackson never fails to surprise in genius fashion, which is what makes him special. BOTTOM LINE: If Michael Jackson did what fans wanted and expected, he wouldn't be who he is. Be patient, he will not disappoint.

Vanilli said: Cinnie said: He has already "disappointed" though. Couldn't have said it better. Sorry buddy. Michael has been disappointing for years now. You'd probably be more disappointed if Michael Jackson released music that wasn't timeless. While he takes a long time, he usually delivers. I agree, it appears he is lazy. However, I think many forget to consider that Jackson is extremely careful with every move he makes, so I'm sure he's very cautious about rushing anything that's not going to take over the world. INVINCIBLE's performance was a disappointment, and I'm sure he does not want to take any chances on a repeat of such (at least in the USA).
