Spooky Reggae From Cyndi Lauper: 1984 Tonight Show I can't imagine a major pop star today showing up on a mainstream show like this and giving such an otherworldly performance. Her performances are controlled and emotional at the same time. Look how she holds one long ass note toward the end, but does it with the minimum of fuss. Lesser performers would make a big deal of it to make sure you knew how impressive a feat it was. Not Cyndi. She's a professional. There aren't many of those in the profession. This live version is nothing like the official version. It's got a slight dub flavour. Well, enough said...enjoy!

I love it too, but it's a shame it's all she's remembered for. I love Cyndi. All her work is great. She made some of the most vibrant music of the 80's, and puts on some of the most exciting live shows ever. A true talented professional. | |

A great performance of the same song from 1987's True Colours Tour. This version is a bit more faithful to the official recording. She doesn't draw huge crowds like this anymore, but she should.....

 Considering she was aware enough of Madonna to write for her, it's impossible that she wouldn't have been conscious of Cyndi too, who of course she has a lot more in common with than Madonna.
