Is Joe Jackson not given enough credit 4 MJ's Success??

I was watching this old Jackson 5 clip on Youtube...

http://youtube.com/watch?...re=related

After I watched it I saw a comment from a person that said "People just don't beat their kids like they use to." lol Now, after I laughed my ass off at the ironic humor in that statement..it made me wonder. Maybe Joe Jackson doesn't get enough credit he deserves for the success of the family. Do u think if he had been a soft Dad MJ & the Jackson 5 would have gotten as far as they did??

true, but I kinda it could've been a little more balanced. He could've shown more love and let them be kids sometimes lol

joe jackson is given credit... always... he started the jacksons... well atleast i give him credit.. but i canNOT give him credit for thriller, OTW, BAD, Dangerous, or any of his later albums... cause those are "my baby michael jackson"'s creations... and he really is a music genius...

its so sad today.. cause most people make songs using a keyboard and drum machine.. and the pop rock all sounds the same... it has a drum and guitar, electric guitar, and sometimes base...

It's not so much that he's not given enough credit, but rather given a bum rap for being a "abusive" stage father. Reading the Ebony interview, I notice that MJ has more respect for his father than he use to, and I honestly think Liz Taylor got in his head about that (spankings=abuse) I don't know if it's cultural or what, but spankings came with the territory when I was a child, you fucked up, you got spanked, plain and simple. You have to consider that during the area of 70s disco and drug abuse and kid stars, none of the Jacksons made headline news. As you grow up you make your own decisions, so whatever mistake MJ, Latoya, Janet, or whoever else made, it was their own fault, and neither Joe nor Katherine can be blamed.

Yeah, I notice he hardly mentioned her (Ms. Taylor) in the interview. I was like "damn, they must've fallen apart". And yeah, everything bad that happened where allegedly, intentionally or done stupidly was on their shoulders, not their parents.

A lot of the "kids" growing up alongside the Jacksons were probably either forced to grow up because of bad surroundings or were gang members. I guess Joe figured he do what his dad did to him. I know his kids couldn't understand why but they couldn't argue too much about it either. Without him, the Jackson 5, MJ and Janet wouldn't have stand a chance to being noticed as well, really. He got them to go to Motown in the first place, everyone else just helped along in making the Jacksons big (Gladys Knight, Bob Taylor, Berry Gordy, etc.)

I've always liked papa Joe.

I just thought he did what he needed to do for his family.

Co-sign, I'm truly over any kind of "hatred" against him. Dude ain't no monster, he just had his own way of parenting that some of us would consider odd. But like Mike said "look what came out of it".

I don't think the abuse was really physical, I think it was emotional and verbal. One of the problems I've always had with Papa Joe was how he treated Katherine. The guy was sharing groupies with his sons and paraded his affairs around his kids, that's just wrong. Think about how Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Michael, and Randy cheated on their wives at one point.....

We ain't gonna get on the insecurites issue in this thread lol

Yep. Joe would take one then send her off to one of the other boys. Michael and Marlon shared the same room so they saw it all confused

lol Don't forget Johnny Jackson! lol

Joe just could've been a better father, although I think Michael had been so hurt by him that he didn't realize all that he did for them until HE became a father. That story about him at the age 40 telling Joe that he loved him for the first time was pretty nice

Yeah, fatherhood changes your outlook on life, I think.

yea I read about it too. Janet paid for the funeral services.

The Jacksons always come through. Remember how Mike paid for David Ruffin's funeral services

I don't know, he was supposedly supposed to play him in a biopic in the late 80's

The Jacksons also helped out with Jackie Wilson in 84 I believe.
