Saw Stevie Wonder last night in Dallas... Man, what an amazing show. It was truly an honor 2 b in the presence of greatness.
Stevie did a great job of playing hardcore fan favorites (Golden Lady, Visions, Too High, Joy Inside My Tears and a few others I can't recall now) as well as his "hits" for the casual fan (I Just Called To Say I Love You, If You Really Love Me, I Wish, Sir Duke, Uptight, Fingertips, etc.). Stevie also did a couple of covers during his show. He did "Cold Sweat" from JB and "It's Alright" from the Impressions (during Ribbon In The Sky...I believe). That was totally shocking to me. I don't ever recall hearing him do covers during his shows. During one point in the show (when he and Aisha performed "How Will I Know" for "A Time 2 Love"), he got tickled and laughed his ass of for about 10 minutes. He and his daughter were just laughing and cutting up...even including the audience. He started quoting lines from What's Love Got To Do With It, calling Aisha "Anne Mae". Funny as hell. He then went into a character that was similar to the old Jewish man that Eddie Murphy played in Coming To America. The show was about 2 1/2 hours long. His band was extremely tight. His bass player has to be one of the best bass players...EVER. I believe he's played with Steve for around 30 years. I know he played bass on SITKOL (most noticably on "I Wish"). The arrangements of the songs were great. He breathed new life into old songs like "If You Really Love Me", "For Once In My Life", "Uptight" and "Fingertips". My only complaint was that there was not a horn section. As we all know, many of his hits feature horns. It was mostly missed during "I Wish", "If You Really Love Me" and "Sir Duke". Other than that, PERFECT! I was one of the blessed to get the opportunity to go backstage and meet him (along with about 30 other people). He played a few more songs on the keys by himself (with us singing) (Hey Love, Knocks Me Off My Feet, All Is Fair in Love and Rocket Love). Man, that was amazing to hear him serenade us with those classics. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Michael Henderson used to play bass for Stevie back in the day Dunno if he played on any albums though, but he did tour with him in the sixties. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Current bass player is Nathan Watts, been with him 30 years. And yes, unbelievable.
The LA show a few months ago was by FAR one of the best gigs I have ever witnessed. I have to skip his return to LA on 12.15 sadly.

You lucky dog. I know you said you might go... I had to suffer thru a karoke version of "I Just Called to Say I Love You" last night. You got the real deal. Did he do "Overjoyed"?

No "Overjoyed" (thank God!). I was hoping that "I Just Called" would have been cut, but the arrangement was decent enough to keep me entertained. He also avoided "Part Time Lover" (thank God)!. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I love songs like "Skeletons", "It's You," "Weakness", "My Eyes Don't Cry No More," "Love Light In Flight" "Go Home" and lots of other stuff. "Part Time Lover" and "I Just Called" are the only 2 songs that I DESPISE!, but Part Time Lover just didn't age well for me and annoys me (hearing it now). As for "Overjoyed", American Idol contestants messed that up for me. [Edited 12/7/07 13:42pm] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Yeah "I Just Called" get on my nerves and "Part Time Lover" got tired because it got played so damn much. Now whenever I hear it, I hum only Luther Vandross' hums, lol.

He played "If You Really Love Me"! Damn! I wish we got that one in Baltimore. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Hope he decides to tour Europe at some point soon. I only ever saw him live once, his brief set at the Nelson Mandela Tribute in 1988. These latest shows sound fantastic.
