What's the story on Stacye and Kimiko and The Sugar Babes? I can't find ANY info on them "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world." | |

After achieving minimal success in 1987 with the Sugar Babes album, MCA gave Stacie Irvin and Kimiko Whitaker another shot with this contagious RB/pop outing, demonstrating impressive proficiency in catchy dance ditties and romantic ballads. Former cohort Patrice Lydia was no longer in the picture by this time, and as a result, the vocal chemistry between Stacie and Kimiko) became even tighter. The two don't simply take turns singing leads; there is evident interaction in the body of songs such as the picturesque heartbreaker "Every Word" and the in-your-face "It Just Ain't Right." Furthermore, the ad-libs are always well devised, sounding spontaneous but not sloppy like many of the new-school RB acts that would pop up later in the 1990's. Both singers have lightweight voices that are well suited to radio; but the fact that they are not vocal powerhouses doesn't prevent them from instilling plenty of passion and all-around style in the celestial "My Thrill" or the downright funky "Come and Get It." Unfortunately, none of these elements got them further than 36 on the RB chart (the single "Wait for Me"), and a 1992 solo album by Kimiko on Tabu Records was permanently shelved. Still, this is a diamond in the rough that's definitely worth the dig for any loyal fans of the late 80's and early 90's RB revolution. - Justin M. Kantor, All Music Guide Straight Jacket Funk Affair

It is definitely a chuckii booker production. I don't remember this one
by the duo but it sounds a little like sounds of blackness optimistic. I remember wait for me in the early nineties. I didn't know they were a part of the sugar babes. I had a friend that used to work for mca records and i would get a lot of promotional 12's from him and i didn't care for the sugar babes so i gave it to my younger sister. Don't laugh at my funk
