Siouxsie Sioux Has anyone heard her recent release? I've heard some snippets on her website and like what I heard. I'm curious on how the whole album pans out. Any opinions? I'm considering purchasing it real soon. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

it's not at all unpleasant but i don't think it's anything to write home about. if you have the extra dough to spend, you'll probably enjoy giving it a few spins then it'll collect dust. it's not a bad record - just not terribly memorable or dynamic.

Hmm... so nothing to write home about? I guess I'll wait until the next paycheck or as Christmas present to me to purchase it. I know if anything, I'd like to add it to my collection. Just like how I did w/ Prince's Chaos and Disorder. Thanks for your input. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

I found it to be for the most part extremely mediocre. Without Severin and/or Budgie backing Siouxsie, her music sounds very generic without any distinguishing characteristics that one would hear, good or bad, on the Banshees' and Creatures' albums. I like a few songs on it, but I was hoping for more from her very first solo record ever.

Having said all that, I'm still going to both New York shows on her solo tour in February.

I love the album cover and the CD does have at least 2 or 3 really strong tracks that remind you of the power of Siouxsie Sioux. For the most part the CD lacks the overall style and command of previous releases with the Banshees.
If I had to give the CD a letter grade it would be a C+.

Please post your review of her concert at the Fillmore afterwards. I wish I could attend. I wanted to attend Debbie Harry's show there on November 8th.

I like it a lot. I am a big Creatures fan and was a little skeptical of her being handled by a producer as well as not having any input from Budgie, her now ex-husband (hence being solo) and drummer for the Banshees.
When I first heard Into A Swan, I instantly loved it. Hard rock guitars with a glam edge. It certainly seemed she was poised to make a Soiuxsie solo record. And that is exactly what it sounds like. I would imagine the task would be a daunting and risky one, but the album is pulled together pretty well. At first listen, it was pretty bombastic and kind of uneven. The first 3 songs sound like they could easily be a James Bond theme...and references of her to SHirley Bassey are errily correct. Her voice is in top form as well. After some more listens I gathered that this album would really serve best on vinyl as it seems there are two distinct "sides" if you will to the album. The rocky upbeat side and the mellower, haunting side. Many of these slower songs are definitely growers. So while you are catching a newer side of Sioux, you can certainly hear Banshee influences as well as Creature influences. I wonder a little if a few of these started with Budgie as there is an exotic percussion vibe through out. Many seem to be about him and her transition from that relationship to being single. I also think this that as much as I love the Creatures, this is her strongest effort in a long time. My favorites are Into A Swan, Here Comes that Day, Loveless, If it doesn't kill you, Heaven and Alchemy. MANTARAY - 1/2Christian Zombie Vampires
