HELP! What's the name of this Prince knock-off??

While I was in junior high school in the mid-1980s, I recorded a song off the radio that to this day is a complete mystery to me. I absolutely LOVE it but I have never had a clue what it's called or who sang it.

Being a Prince fan, I think it sounds a bit like a knock-off, maybe even a spin-off from someone in the Revolution, but I really don't know. I have done loads of research but I just can't find this song. PLEASE help me solve the mystery once and for all!

The year is 1984-85. The singer is male. The lyrics (which I only have a portion of) go like this:

....closer to me
Girl, I can feel your body tremble
and it's raining harder outside
You're so cold and wet
Girl, I'm not trying to be cool
But I can feel your kisses in my soul
Look at you, baby
Don't you play hard to get

Now it's raining, tears so cold
I'll never let you go
Baby, I'll never let you go
Can't you see that I want you so
And girl, I'll never let you go
I'll never let you, I'll never let you go

I wish you were mine
Girl, you know what I want to do
I know you're not blind
Oh girl, let me lay you down
You know I don't care
about the other guys you hang around
It just isn't fair
that you do me so cold
Can't you see me begging for sympathy
And baby I want you
Maybe I'm demanding, but no one else could love you like me

(Prince-like guitar solo)

And it's raining harder outside
Yeaaaahhhh, ooh hoo
Don't go girl
Whoa-o-whoa-o-yeah

Now it's raining....now it's raining baby.....tears so cold
I don't want to let you go
I don't want to let you, I don't want to let you go
Mass confusion, I'm so blue
There's something that you should know
I don't want to let you, I don't want to let you go

Now it's raining, tears so, tears so cold
I don't want to let you know
Mass confusion, I'm so blue
There's something that you should know....

If you know anything about this song, I would be very grateful to hear from you. I've listened to my cassette copy so many times that the tape is nearly worn out. I would love to find it on vinyl or CD, but I can only do that if I know the name of the song! Thank you very much!!

It's definitely Sam Bostic's Circuitry. The song is called 'Tears So Cold'.
