DURAN DURAN'S RED CARPET MASSACRE

I am ok with Timbaland, but not a huge fan. I didn't know what to expect with Duran's new cd. I always buy their stuff anyway, though. I got the big time special edition w/dvd..coz I'm a fan. I actually am starting to like the cd. The title track,The Valley, and Nite-Runner are hitting me now.I'm sure more will hit me soon.I'm taking my time with this.

I was going to start a thread on this today.

I have been warming up to it. It is certainly an interesting record coming off of the full band effort of Astronaut, which I thought was ok. This on is a different beast entirely. Right now I liken it to be a more modern version of The Wedding Album.

I'm not sure what to make of the Timberland style/beat on the disc. The beats seem unnessary as DD normally go for something closer to a mainstream beat with some exceptions like "I don't want you love"...Actually Big Thing was different in that regard as well. So the beats are warming up to me. The techno sounds I do like and they fit with the album as a whole.

IMO, this is a grower. But I certainly think it's probably their strongest material in quite a while. I also don't think DD make entirely solid albums either. There is always a filler piece here and there. But what I think what makes a good DD record is when the majority of the songs are likeable and memorable. I've only given it a few spins, but songs already stand out more than Astronaut. I love the opening track, I think it's one of my favorites on it. I also like Nite Runner, Skin Divers, Box full O Honey, Tempted, Tricked Out and Last Man Standing.

It's a very good album. I wasn't sure what to expect with the collaboration with Timbaland but I think it turned out well.

Yes, I am enjoying it. I could do without the instrumental track "Tricked Out", but overall a strong album.

btw Duran Duran is gonna get screwed this week on the charts cuz somebody screwed up somewhere and didn't get the album to Best Buy or Circuit City and maybe others on release day and those stores add up to a big chunk of the sales...i think on Hits Daily Double it only sold 24,000 plus and didnt make the top 40

I think it's a great album. One of the best in years and I like it more than "Astronaut."

Honestly the reason is they arent a prioirty at their label, why they signed with Sony i will never know, the fact is that the label didnt even remember their album was coming out to get it shipped to stores.

well if the lack of sales for this album means they will go back to making a "Duran Duran" type album on an indie label then that's not a bad thing smile i havent warmed up to these Timbaland beats yet and i dont think i will

Hmmm... I heard the first single and thought it was a little lame. I heard it again and began to warm up to it. I've been hesitant on purchasing it. So far, it seems that the majority enjoy the album. I think I may have to purchase it soon. smile
