I just saw her in concert at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle and she is fantastic live. Her voice sounded great and she just puts on a great show.

you know what? I really really like her.

And yup...i admit it...i'm one of those people who was JUST introduced to her by the '1,2,3,4' iPod Nano commercial. When that commoercial first hit i couldn't get the damn melody and chorus out of my head...i was singing it around the house constantly.

Anywayz...so i was singing it all the time (just the part they played on the commercial because i hadn't heard the rest of the song). And, since i kinda liked her herky jerky (but un-affectedly cute) dancing in the commercial i went to itunes to see if the video was available...it was, so i gave them a few bucks and put it on my wifes ipod.

but since i was already at the computer i did a search for FIEST and came up with several LIVE audio and/or video clips of concerts, tv appearances and 'official videos' on you tube. Being a 'live' junkie i went to those first to see if she was a 'studio only' type of artist or if she was a 'studio & live' type of artist who also could also bring something interesting to the table when performing live...the first live clips i came to were a few electrified guitar heavy live versions of 'Secret Heart'. <<< Honestly I think i was sold right there. But all of the clips i heard after that where also really really good (catchy quirky songs, interesting arrangements, unique but 'hooky' melodies and presented & performed with life, energy and earnest emotion...plus her voice was great. smile

so yeah, i was hooked. i spent that one saturday tracking down all the live FIEST shows & clips i could find on the web, bought another video from iTunes (Mushaboom) and then went to the store to pick up two albums by her...i was a FIEST FIEND that day.

that was a little while back, like i said it happened when that iPod Nano commercial first hit. Mostly I've been playing the live stuff i grabbed, and the videos, haven't given the studio albums their full listens yet but what i've heard of them i've liked so far ( i can't remember which two i purchased...there were 3 in the store i went to but i think i bought the latest one and another one called 'Let it Die'. Out of the two i bought, at first 'quick skim listens' i remember liking them both, but liking one of them slightly better than the other, but i cant remember which one smile Like i said i still need to give those studio records their fair share of listening time...once i can let go of the LIVE stuff that is. smile

what do i like about ms 'FIEST'?

...well, obviously her voice and delivery is something special. But ususally for me, 'voice alone is not enough for me to run out and immediately buy records. i tend to need more tan just a cool voice in order for me to do that.

and she has more...like i said above, ('catchy quirky songs, interesting arrangements, unique but 'hooky' melodies and presented & performed with life, energy and earnest emotion')...<<< all that there, combined with her voice peaked my interest definitely.

She also breezes through and exhudes a variety of styles very naturally, (which, in my book, if it comes out of you naturally, is another plus.) She's not 'just' an acoustic folkie type if you know what i'm saying. If you youtube her you'll come accross a varity of visual & audio clips of her doing all types of different things. she'll strap on a scratchy electric guitar and rock the hell out, then on the next clip she'll break into a breezy jazzy boz scaggs type of jam with slick production, then she'll groove on a funky smooth dance vibe on another clip, and then flip and give you a soulfully felt ballad, then throw in an infectious pop ditty to make ya smile...and none of it seems forced at all. it seems 'natural'. Thats the thing. i get the impression that she's just into and has been influenced by a bunch of different things and she explores her musical interests with a thourough passion YET an oh so playful carefree abandon. I think that is what hooked me...her relaxed playful approach to things, combined with her apparent attention to detail and appreciation for a variety of styles makes for nice combination. Nice production on everything i heard too.

so yeah, all of that^ stuff, plus her voice, and the fact that she's kinda playful quirky & cute, yet can exhude a lot of passion and power (especially live)...and i guess i have a thing for chicks who can strap on a guitar (or bass) an REALLY own it ya know wink...

yup, guess i kinda i liker her too smile

The Reminder is a cool record, but I like 2004's Let It Die more.

"1 2 3 4" hit the top 10 in the U.S. because of the iPod commercial.

People now discovering Feist should check out her cover of Prince's "Sexy Dancer" with ex-roommate Peaches. It's fun.

I'm also guilty of hopping on the Feist bandwagon b/c of a commercial, but I bought her album because of some cellphone commercial that was playing My Moon, My Man music

But hey, better late than never. Plus it proves that the right promotion can really broaden an artist's fanbase.
If you will, so will I

Her fan base was fine as it was!!!fit

Just kidding... (sorta). lol

Besides, I think folks will be in for a rude awakening once they finally attend her shows and realize she's going to re-arrange evey piece and not play them in any way REMOTELY familiar to what they're grabbing the masses with. I always liked to see people get THIS look "whofarted nuts whofarted" on their faces when they see her perform and she'snot doing a radio edit of her songs giggle

...that being said...I've seen your posts this forum before...I gotta feeling you'll be in with Leslie Feist for the long haul, Mamacita wink wink wink

rude awakening? That's exactly what i LOOK for in a live performance. (a live performance of 'Secret Heart' is what 'hooked' me in the first place (it was very different from the album version). Like i said, thats what i want from a live performance...unexpected twists and turns, re-arrangements, risks, rough edges...for me that's what makes a good live performance.(my favorite artist is Meshell Ndegeocello...and thats definitely how she rolls smile

How about I was turning through some radio channels in the car just searching for some sort of new material one day and guess what came up?? Fiest singing "Mushaboom"! I loved the production on that song as with the melody. I felt like a little kid again for some reason. I couldn't believe it was a new song! I didn't even know the name of the singer. So I had to wait 5 songs later to get the name. I looked on the internet and copped the album a week later and fell in love with "let it die".. Nuff said. She got a style all her own!
