you know? i actually agree that she may be more pop than r&b however i didn't like the tone of her voice when she said it. she seenmed ungrateful and snotty to me. that alicia keys comment even sounded slightly sarcastic.

It sounded like her Barbados accent to me, not snottiness.

Yeah i dont think she really meant anything by it, i agree though she is a Pop singer not RB, but thats the way they label things, i remember one year Mariah won in the RB category and Gladys Knight wanted her shot. So i think shows like these tend to stay away from anything that might cause an issue.

Rihanna needs some humble pie.... seriously..... i hate celebs who are egotistical... thinking they are so special and "the world revovles around them"... if rihanna turns into that... I WILL NOT BE A FAN...

thats one reason why i liked janet for so long... cause she is very low key.. and humble... and NO one seems to recognize that... they praise other celebs who are so sooo annoying and have a big head... (Michael Jackson does show off sometimes... but he isn't a person.. that needs to be the center of attention.. he can sit back and be quiet... thats what i love about him...oooh i love MJ... love )

I become a fan not just for music... but also personality and style....

Rihanna's cute songs is what made me like her.. and her style and free personality is what made me a fan.... but if this ego trip keeps rising... then i won't support her..... I just wont....

I don't think it was snotty. It only seemed a little revealing...you know, about what her true ambitions are. If it was an unexpected win in the "best rock" category, her reaction might have been different. Sometimes it's what you don't say.

But this is what makes her different. I still like her...not because of her music, but because her career might be interesting to watch.

God, get your own mind. You're completely basing your own opinion on two other opinions. "IF she turns like that" so you don't even know if she has or not? Yet you're willling to just turn like that because more than one person said "OMFG SHE SOUNDED STUCK UP! SHE HATES EVERYONE AND LOVES ONLY HERSELF!!11"

Please. Think about it.

That title was given to him by various award shows (World Music Awards, Bambi Awards, etc). But of course, he is arrogant as hell.

I like her songs and think she's adorable, but I know she's really an industry puppet, and there are better artists than her. She lost points with me when she got WBSS's title wrong when she told BET she sampled "got to be starting something" the same way when britney thought I love rock and roll was by pat benatar, and avril lavigne couldn't pronounce david bowie's last name. I don't think anyone deserves to be in the music industry unless they know old school music and are influenced by that, cause if you're influenced by newer stuff only, chances are you're going to sound like shit and not be respected.

Did this mutha sucka just say "colored"?

I'll be glad when this chick's 15 minutes are up. Vocally, she's a gimmick. She's not a good singer. The pop crowd is fascinated with her looks (light eyes/light hair, "tan" skin) and I can't help but believe her advancement over at Def Jam had something to do with "extracurricular activities" with her boss, Jay-Z. She's not going to get to expand too far beyond her gimmick (her heavily accented faux-Caribbean sound) - yes SHE is Barbadian but her "sound" sounds like watered-down Caribbean (sorta like when pop producers do R&B and hip-hop songs). Jay-Z knew when he moved her into the top position at Def Jam that most of what she does was going to have to rely heavily on the hype machine. Now, this bobble-head has make-up contracts, endorsements, etc. and still has yet to release a song that didn't ride on something else other than interpolations of past hits and her own limited skills. Def Jam's objective was to make a Beyoncé. Jay knew the formula from dealing with Bey on a personal level and having access to inner-working info that he might not have had otherwise. Dude is smart but he was GIVEN the position of CEO with NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER. All he had working for him was connections and a sales track record. Def Jam ran a marketing campaign and made Rihanna a copy of Bey knowing that she doesn't have a fraction of the talent. Luckily for them, in this day and age it doesn't take much talent. If a woman is pretty enough with marginal singing ability and can keep her mouth closed and not rock the boat, she can slip through the cracks for a few years.
Rihanna's ego will crush her career. She's starting to believe her own hype AND she's straying from her core fanbase. That is always the beginning of the end. Now if she would only say something stupid and solidify that move, we could move on to the next hack diva.

I took it that Rebel was saying "to those labeling her, she's just the colored chick". If so, he/she should have put it in quotes.

I agree with you that she's alienating her fans. It's so clear by her actions that she's believing her hype and that she thinks to elevate, you have to alienate/disassociate. She's got it all wrong.

I wonder if that photo shoot with Robin Thicke...you know, the one where she's in somewhat compromising positions...If she had to do that with Usher, or Jay Z , would it have even happened? I doubt it.

She's taking a gamble and it may work for her. Too bad her talent is so limited.

I'm not going to get started on her apparent self-image issues. She's said things in interviews that have made me think that she has many. I'm not even going there; it would spawn a whole new thread. She would have done a photoshoot like that with Jay-Z because he is her "boss" for now but you know Bey wouldn't have that. I'm actually surprised Robin got a pass but maybe Paula's "that type" as well. I get the feeling Beyoncé would cut her ass. lol I thought Rihanna was going out with Josh Hartnett? Maybe not? I couldn't see that photoshoot going down with anyone darker than her otherwise.

I agree you on that point. This type of behavior is very common amongst island people, being from an island myself. You get those light skin folks who tend to look down on darker people and will tell you they are not black until they face the reality of it all when they go to a western country.
Although I would fuck Rihanna's brain out I always saw her for what she is.
It's the same for people from Latin America who think of themselves as being white.

You were serious!? I don't believe that for a second. Even if English were your 10th language...how could you not know that "colored" dates WAY back? What kind of books did they teach you from in school? Do they also say that the US has 48 States? What languages do you speak? and where are you from? I must know who is still being taught "colored".

Anyway, from now on...to prevent causing any friction...just say "Coon".

Well first or all I would like to apologize for my political incorrectness or ignorance or whatever. I know how deeply the African American people has been harmed by racism. But dude you need to realise that American history doesn't automatically translate into world history. Although I sympathies with your struggles it really has no relevance to me because we come from different worlds.
Although some of my ancestors were slaves the term coloured, Coon etc are not ones that I am familiar with. I hear the word coloured used quite often, I was listening to The Time's Ice cream castles today.
Are you familiar with the term "Mazanbik", well I am. So it's not your place to insult people.

1st. What specifically insulted you? 2nd. I was very serious...Where are you from that they use the word colored? I would say one of the islands colonized by the Brits, but you initially spelled it without the U...interesting. Also, how do you not know this is not correct? How could you exist in a world connected by the web...even if visiting forums like this, and not know that colored is wrong? Where is it that you still hear it? I'm really curious.

My computer autocorrects the words according to the US English dictionary. Coloured and colored are 2 different things.
The one I was referring to is used to describe a person of mixed race with some African ancestry. So a U makes a huge difference.
The US and the rest of the world are much more different than I imagined. The word coloured and Creole are often synonymous but in America Creole has another meaning.
There is really no need to insult someone about where he is from or what he learned in his history classes.

So a U makes a huge difference.
So huge that you left it out.

This is really no big thing. I doubt by your writing/slang etc...that you are a stranger to English and American ways but if you say...
So, where is it that you live that you "hear the word coloured used quite often"? I truly wish to know. Please educate.
Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

The word is commonly used in many African countries such as South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
I come from the Seychelles but I never said the word is used there, we use the word creole but I'm aware of the word coloured and heard it used on various TV programmes from the above countries.
Why do you insist on where I live as if I'm living in ignorance. This is what I find insulting.
