rahsaan patterson (new improved Prince)

If you haven't heard of Rahsaan ya better ask somebody. WINE and SPIRITS is the new album

His flavor is so rich and thick with soulful rhythms that is makes your ears feel like there full of hot butter.

He came out during the period of what I like to call the fab four which is 1995-1997. It was during this time that D'angelo, Eric Benet, Maxwell, and Rahsaan Patterson all came onto the air-waves. All very talented, but Rahsaan sound is even unique among these very talented R&B artist. Which can clearly be seen by a classic album that should be in everyone collection AFTER HOURS.

Rahsaan Patterson's vibe can best be described by the scene in the movie concert Sign of the Times when prince is playing acoustic guitar with all the band members (including Shelia E, Dr. Fink, Eric leeds ect.) standing behind him harmonizing while prince rattles off some incredible vocal chants. Somehowe Rahsaan is able to capture moments like that in the studio and place them on CD. Prince somehwere along the way has lost that incredible ability that very few people have.

So until Prince recaptures that consider Rahsaan Patterson as a more than suitable replacement. People want to call him NEO SOUL, but I prefer the titile Sophisticated Soul.

Goole him, youtube him with "Rahsaan Patterson Oh Lord", or see him in concert but just do your ears a favor and hear him.

Just one question...how's his attitude? I really couldn't handle another ego tripping, non-appreciative, pseudo-superstar.

I mean i don't think you could call anyone that in all fairness.

Rah is the male version of Chaka Khan, if anything. And yeah, VH is the closest thing to P we have right now until D' gets up off his couch and sweats off his lbs. and drops some hot shit on us.

Van Hunt is good (not on the level of Rahsaan), they have worked together on several songs. And I didn't say he was better than prince, certainly not. But his music has more flavor than Prince's at the moment. Listen to After Hours vs 3121.and Wine and Spirits vs Planet Earth. (any unbiased person listening to those albums and rating them on creativity, Soul, Funk, and lyrics would say what I've already stated. Rahsaan is the new and improved Prince.

It happens to all great artist eventually, their stars lose a little of their luster over time (example Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan) that is not to say that they are not still great. Prince's live performances are still incredible, but his music on CD's lack that spontaneous spark (hard to explain that's why I used that scene from SIGN OF THE TIMES to help illustrate what i meant.)

You know why d'angelo hasn't droped anything is because he doesn't have a high level of creativity, so he knows anything he puts out will not be up to the level of BROWN SUGAR. Two Albums in 12 year period, and your saying he's on Prince's level. Please

Van Hunt is a good artist. (good freshman album, and very good sophomore album,)

Wrong - read it again SLOWLY this time - I said they both are the CLOSEST to P not on the "same level."

I saw Rahsaan live recently...it was very good, but there was far too much vocal riffing going on, which is hard to take as his voice is quite whining and thin. Having said that, I met him afterwards and the guy is very nice, very humble and down to earth. No superstar ego at all.

He put on a performance in D.C a few years ago that had people running to the door. I have never heard so many people complain about a performance in my life. WHUR promoted the show and they stopped taking comments after 30 people said it was the worst performance they had ever seen.

Maybe he has stepped up his game since then but, he will never be on P’ level if he can’t bring it live.
In addition, I wish everyone would stop hating on Planet Earth it is a pop record not a R nB record. Everytime P goes the Pop road he gets this BS that he has lost it.
