I got to agree with a lot of people here and say Chaka's new one is good. It isn't an out of the box smash...It takes a few listens and you'll find tracks you'll really like (of course, there's some filler...a cover by a certain artist who is sueing his fans for one). It's a "good" album and that's what you asked for.

Yeah, that girl has struggled in her career, for real nod Loved the Lucy Pearl Album with Dawn. It was great. And it would have been completely different with Joi frontin it but I felt that they went with glamour when they decided not to take joi as the lead. She certainly is as good a singer, but in a different way, as Dawn nod I wish she was bigger than she is because she could have a mad ass career with a voice like that nod

you know, I'm going to throw out a good rule of thumb here. The more commercial appeal for the album, likely the worse it's gonna be, i.e. plasticy cookie cutter industry approved production. Probably the best albums you will find will not be strict R&B albums. Take Alice Smith for Example, that is not really an R&B album but that chick has an amazing voice and range so it makes the experience so much more adventurous and worthy of digging into.

I'd like to submit this suggestion:

This album came out when "Neo-Soul" was first gaining momentum as a notable musical style. Some of the stuff on here can qualify as R&B, however there are many cuts that cannot be pigeonholed into that category just because the musicians singing/playing them are black. Sadly, they got lost in the shuffle as this album should have been huge considering how great it is.
