Details on Donna Summer's upcoming album

So far,a handful of tracks have been recorded:

"Unpredictable" (written by Kara Dioguardi and Tony Bruno)
"I Will" (written by Annie Roboff and Kandi L.Burress)
"Reasons" (written by Lester Mendez and Wayne Hector)
"Stamp" (written by Danielle Brisebois)
"Brazil" (written by Danielle Brisebois)

Donna is also expected to go into the studio with The Freemasons and there is a rumor that she may also record a duet with Beyonce (!).The album is due in spring 2008,around the same time that Donna may be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Maybe 2008 could be her big comeback year?

While we anxiously await new music from Donna, here's a fun,fan-created video for her recent single "I Got Your Love",which became a dance/club hit in 2005:

disbelief NO MORE COVERS ALBUMS!! Diana Ross,Deniece Williams,Chaka Khan,Natalie Cole,Gladys Knight,Patti LaBelle and others have all released covers albums in recent years and I'm sick of it!

Bravo to Donna for doing a "new" album thumbs up! I wanna hear her singing brand new songs, written specifically for this project.I don't need to hear her singing songs that are 40 years old, lol.

Surprising since Donna is well known for her songwriting (writes or co-writes a good 85% of her stuff, maybe?). I hope this works for her, though. I hope it's a dance record but doesn't sound "cheap" like most indie albums by bigger artists (cough...Chaka's...cough).

While I'm sure Donna could do a great all covers album, I'm not a huge fan of the genre. 2008....Let us hope!

Yeah, I would not be able to deal with another covers album even from Donna Summers.

I love that (former child actress) Danielle Brisebois is working on this. Did anybody else here that actress Tasha Smith will be playing her life story (director not yet chosen)?

I seriously doubt a new Donna Summer album is ever going to see the light of day, sorry to say.

I hope it's a good, fun dance record (like Cher's 'Believe' or Madonna's 'Confessions')...nothing too heavy or serious. She needs to ease back onto the scene with some great dance tracks.

I don't even know who Danielle Brisebois is lol

Out of the songwriters listed, the only one I'm familiar with is Kandi L.Buresss.She was one of the Exscape girls who went on to write hit songs for TLC ("No Scrubs"),Destiny's Child ("Bills,Bills,Bills") and others.

neutral Let's hope she gives Donna something a little more appropriate than those songs!

How many YEARS have we been hearing the phrases "new Donna Summer album" and "she's recording" thrown about? I hope for the best, but I'm also realistic and very tired of waiting for Donna. What will probably come out of this is a few new tracks on yet another GH collection early next year. lol

Oh yeah, I remember Kandi.

Danielle was the little girl on All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place. I just remember her but never really watched the shows...she used to bug the hell outta me then. lol

But in recent years she used to be in that band New Radicals that had that song Get What You Give. I know you remember that one...I used to love it. Now she does production and song writing. I think she did something for Kelly Clarkson recently.

Stop being so...realistic!

The way I see it, the other record deals that Donna signed with Mercury (Universal), then Sony, then it seems like she dipped back into the Mercury pool . It's the same trend. They want her for her hits...Mercury most definately!

Mercury 1994 yileded the "Endless Summer" with some new tracks and "Christmas Spirit" (and the rereleases of all of her proper discs on CD, which is a good thing). Didn't seem to be much interest in making a new album....so

Sony 1999. "Live and More Encore" came with some success and some new tracks. The promise for a new album was there and we assume it was coming and I believe she probably made enough for a proper disc but she got swept under the rug....

Mercury again. 2003(?) gave us "The Journey" with some newly recorded stuff as well as finally a mix of the leaked and amazing "You're So Beautiful". She hinted at making a new disc...

Now with Burgandy, they clearly can't capatilize on her hits the same way Mercury and even to a slight extent, Sony, did. If she doesn't make a new album with them soon, it will never happen.

At the very least, you have to admit she seems to want to make a new album. It's the business end that has been screwing her but this small label could be just what she needs!

Exactly. I understand VoicesCarry's pain though but professional labels are a bitch, lol.

Oh,I hear what you're saying and I'm sorta skeptical too.But I think it's really gonna happen this time. She now has a recording contract (Burgundy Records) which just released a new Chaka Khan CD,and a few song titles have been mentioned,so I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.

It won't sound cheap or indie. Chaka Khan's latest CD is on Burgundy Records a division of Sony/BMG and is excellent in every way shape and form. This is the same label Donna Summer is now signed to.

Actually, that isn't a good example. I just listened to it again (well, most of it). It doesn't sound cheap (but do you ever notice how some do?) but I'm not a fan of most of the tracks. Not the best songwriting and the "Sign O The Times"...can't imagine anyone digging that one!

Burgundy is gonna throw some money into this project. It won't sound cheap. There's even a rumor that Beyonce will duet with Donna on one song. This is gonna be a big project.
