Alan Leeds about Spike Lee's James Brown biopic

Unfortunately it's on-again, off-again. Spike Lee's "vision", as Alan Leeds says, of the movie seems to be very different from what the Hollywood studios want to do.
And what's the most difficult thing? - Casting.

Listen to the interview Alan Leeds did for "Daily Mole" (Twin Cities):

Get sexy sex, get funky at... The ORANGE Park - Funky President, people, it's bad!

I sooo wish Spike Lee can do this movie! Why shouldn't he get "backin' outside of Hollywood" for James Brown when he could for Malcolm X which I think to be more difficult.

Co-sign x10 times. I know he wouldn't compromise, I have strong faith that he'll deliver a very authentic interpretation of JB's life. But there's abit of a problem,,,,,

Spike got couple o' more biopix under his nose:

The Jackie Robinson Story
The Joe Louis Story

I hope he focus on ONE project at a time.

Agree. nod And every artist that were influence by JB, as well as every rap artist that sampled his music, needs to be THE very first group of people to raise the funds for Spike. cool

exactly.

we all know there will be some great and powerful sex scenes in the movie, Spike seems to know how to do that well.

I loved Malcolm X though.....that's my shit.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

James Brown had such a huge influence and impact on so many different artists and cultures through time. I didn't understand why the producers wouldn't like to use it and rather do a movie for "a very limited demographic"???!

I'd co-sign a hundred times Alan Leeds' words:

I don’t think they appreciate the fact that this is an artist with a huge international impact who is probably the second-most recognizable black man on the planet, after Mandela and Muhammad Ali.

I think the guy who should play James should be that dude who was on Hairspray (don't know his name but seen clips of him dancin' in the movie)
PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

ER ALAN...

Don't wish to be a pendant but.. that would make him the third most recognizable black man on the planet.

I'm glad he didn't mention the "kop". Spike should ask Spielberg for help imo.

A James Brown biopic is a movie for "a very little demographic"???

Even the elite feels the need to talk about the Godfather of Soul:

'Ain't that a Groove': The Genius of James Brown

a symposium at PRINCETON UNIVERSITY on November 29 - 30 with Questlove, Cornel West, Harry Weinger and Alan Leeds.
