I personally prefer her version of "I'm Going Down". The original is a bit more sentimental for my taste, esp the crying @ the end. I also loved her duet with Faith Evans on "Love Don't Live Here Anymore", you could tell that both women drew from their deep pain @ the time.

I love Mary, but lets keep it real. Chaka owns this song. "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

Its hard 4 me to listen to the Rolls Royce version of that song and that might have somehting to do with it. it souds way to sad for me. I partake on the Madonna's 1983 version Straight Jacket Funk Affair

i like Mary's better because that's the one i grew up with. it doesnt make it the better version really. i think it's just a matter of personal taste. Chaka may technically the better singer with a bigger range but you can't deny the rough around the edges, raw emotional approach that Mary brings to a track. i think it's about what you prefer from a singer.

Yeah, you're so right about that. Mary brings a raw vulnerability to that song but Chaka brings it to you. I love the two extremes. I love both versions.
