The biggest example for me of how things have changed is to think back to Tiffany and Debbie Gibson, who were marketed at exactly the same demographic as Britney was ten years later, 8 year old girls. Considering the titanic gulf between their approach you have to ask yourself, did 8 year old girls really change that much in ten years?

I just this performance of Teedra and this is what made me include her. This dress is short, but she's still classy and a good performer at that.

This is part of the reason why I dont' really care for girl groups. They're usually just kids shoving sex appeal down the public's throats. I can't stand forced sex appeal from a woman or a man. Either you have it or you don't. Alot of times a person just being themselves can sensual or sexy.

I agree about Aaliyah. She just had a natural appeal and always carried herself like a lady. How I wish we could see at her 30, 35 years old.

I could give a damn what Alicia Keys sexual preference is. She's naturally beautiful and has moments of pure sexiness and sultriness that doesn't seem forced.

Never thought Mariah was sexy until I saw moments of it during the last tour. It's debatable I guess. I think she's best when she's just chilling.

Pam Grier...well, Pam Grier is Pam Grier. 'Nuff said on that.

I don't know why anyone would argue that Alicia is NOT a lesbian. What's wrong with being a lesbian? No one is arguing that the sky is NOT blue! Although I understand the difference it makes to a large part of our society still, and the impact it could have on her career.

Natural sexiness has all but died out. Its not that none of the female artists out are capable of exuding sexiness, its that sexiness is not promoted these days. It has been replaced with slutty and angry. For an artist, sexy is more than how you look but also what you emote. If you think about it, the songs today are anything but sexy. Many female artists look pretty and sound angry. You can't be singing about how a man can't touch you and be trying to look hot. The two cancel each other out. People like Bey are attractive but her songs don't send a "sexy" message but rather that of a duality that can be confusing. The same is the case for most pop stars of today; attractive with an attitude (Monica & Kelly R.). Artists like Rihanna have the looks (a little bit) but are unconvincing in the delivery. Then you have the Myas (crazy, thug chasers) and the Ameries and Teedras (sound good but are too busy displaying vocal ability to be sexy) and the Alicias who come off as contrived whenever they try to be sexy. I'm sorry, Alicia is very pretty but far from sexy. Even with all of the flaws of the above mentioned artists and their types; (whoops, almost forgot the unskilled cuties like Ashanti and Cassie) they themselves are not the reason that sexiness is nonexistent in music these days. Labels/Corporations have effectively bred sexiness out of our culture in general. Much in the same way that strip clubs replaced burlesque, the media had bred out the tease of sexiness for the sleaze of overt vulgarity and self-indulgence. Most everything made in entertainment is made to feed the ego. Movies are dumbed down to make people feel smart and sensual has been turned to sexual for instant gratification. Such is also the case with music. People refuse to be teased nowadays because we have become such an "instant society" that we expect immediate satisfaction. The entertainment industry has one philosophy - give it to them. When enough people do it, it becomes commonplace and the art of subtlety is lost. Its quite simple - these artists don't know how to be naturally subtle. They have no one to teach them.

I think the same goes for many of today’s young male artists as well, with the common denominator being: Angry.

I'll agree in a heartbeat that she's drop-dead-gorgeous nod

And I'll agree STRONGLY if you say that she's a sexy "hunk" nod nod nod nod

falloff Harle, you are crackin' me up on this thread lol

I don't find Alicia drop dead gorgeous. Sometimes she's pretty and sometimes I'm like....okkayyyyy.

I think Rihanna is just incredibly beautiful.

I think that a part of the reason why some of these artists aren't that sexy is because they are still pretty young.

Rhianna is a very beautiful girl but she's like what...18?...19?...she's just starting to own her sexiness. She'll be plenty sexy once she's 25 but she's just not there yet.

I don't know what Beyonce's problem is though. lol maybe that has to do with her dad being her manager. shrug

She's "OH-SO-VERY GAY!!!!" But, who said that was a crime? I find her attractive, depending on the pictures. But, when she moves or when I hear voice, I'm not feeling her. She sounds like Allen Payne. She moves like.....well, a dude! Sorry, I think she's attractive.....but I don't find her sexy or cute or even remotely gorgeous in the slightest. It's her whole aura and movement.....

You's a lie. confused Her whole movement on videos like No One are obvious that she's trying to force it down the throats of the public that, "Hey, I am sexy.....DUDE!!!! Well the reason mainly is that the industry lowered itself to doing just one thing, sell to youth. And kids dont know what sexy is, theres a big difference between just HOT or PRETTY than SEXY, sexy is an attitude to in of its own, and its not supposed to be forced out. can you imagine Marvin Gaye coming out today, they would have him with his shirt open or off all the time. I almost 100% blame the marketing for everything that and just the lack of imagination in videos and in music creation. But i really think this all came about in the later 80's, when everyone was trying to push the envelope with what you could do and say, and once they did, everyone just tried to do the same thing but be more extreme with it. I do blame alot of this also on lyrics and what you can say, honestly there is no reason to be extreme with lyrics anymore, its over, been there done that. If someone finds R Kelly or Akon singing "i wanna fuck you" as being Sexy youve got some serious maturity issues, there is nothing hot about that and its the opposite of Sexy and how any females fall for that shit is beyond me. And the real reason that the industry aims itselfs at youth and only youth is because when it hit its all time high in sales, it was things like Nsync and Britney and Backstreet that were selling, but how dumb can the industry be, everything is a phase, and that whole teen movement was a phase, and though it ended the mindset of marketing has not.

Aaliyah was my girl. Back in the day, well even now, Patti La Belle was kicking. Queen Latifah has always had a sexiness to her. And I think Rhinna is hot.

The only female artist that annoys me with her looks is Beyonce. Everytime I see her, she looks like she's been under the knife. Or simply put, she is so plastic.

ALicia Keys is butch fem.

And also the mindset of labels and media of just everything has to be young, can anyone name a female that is pushed that is over 25? Its scary when someone says that an artist like Amerie is OLD? she turned 29, WTF is up with thinking? this is why Sexiness cant happen.

The term "middle class church bunny" screams Beyonce's name lol

She's waaaaay too wholesome to portray her OWN song's character(Nasty Girl).

Mariah's the same way too.

I'm sick of hearing women using liberation as an excuse to get down and dirty. Its ok, be blunt about it and say "I'm sick of any MATERIAL covering my ass", its ok, we understand lol

YES!!! Amen. I agree fully. Where is the class? Its seems like nobody has any these days. As far as sexiness goes, none of these girls have it. Mariah is a little doll playing dress up, its not natural she just seems frigid to me. Christina to a degree had it, at least it did not seem fake, and she has now grown the class that makes it seem genuine. Aaliya had it for sure (RIP).

As far as men goes, sorry, but D'Angelo HAD IT BIG TIME. I witnessed the Voodoo tour and brother was on fire! Yes, he gained weight, but that does not matter. Once you have it, you always have it. It does not have to do with weight or just looks even, Its a way of carrying your self, confidence, and geniune "it" quality. D can lose the weight and will STILL and always have it.

The problem with all these young female stars (or rather, the people who push them, I suppose) is that they don't understand there's a difference between being scantily clad and wriggling your ass, and actual sex appeal. A person who's got it is hot even in a parka and gumboots. smile
