The reason current R&B music sucks.

Here is the reason why current R&B or whatever you wanna call it (urban music) sucks these days ...

CHURCH

None of these current singers were bought up in a good ol' fashioned church. That's the reason most of these cats can't really blow live and are just mainly studio singers (need equipment and studio effect to sound good).

Take a look at past R&B / Soul great, they were bought up in the church. Sam Cooke, James Brown, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle, ect, ect came from the church. Heck, most of the people I named started out as Gospel singers.

I guarantee you is Omarion, Trey Songz, Ashanti, Chris Brown and all these cats went to a down home southern church, they'd be able to blow with the best of them.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and I agree. Not only did they sing in church but many of them also played instruments.

The bigger reason, producers, pharrell, timbaland etc..anyone that bridged the gap between POP and RB, and turned most of RB into disposable POP.

I think this is one of the reason I like Fantasia so much. You can tell she was brought up in church by her singing style and performance.

The reason it sucks is because there are no real drums and bass, it sounds like shit hop, and it never gets past midtempo.

sometimes i think about how many good r&b singers with real talent probably
never got a chance in the last 15 years because they were passed over for hip hop artists...i bet we missed out on a lot of great music

The majority of "R&B" artists are not even really R&B. I can't think of many current young singers who sing real R&B. Cats like Ne-yo come to mind. Now all I hear is singing over hip hop beats. R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues, not rap and Beyonce neutral

Okay the real reason why ALL MUSIC made today sucks..is because they are letting young kids be artists... back then artist were in their 30's and 40's and sometimes late 20's.. but it was rare to have a whole lot of kids in the music industry during the 60's, 70's and 80's...

now today if your over 25.. you most likely will NOT get a record contract... and you will be considered old..

The reason current R&B music sucks is...

Michael Jackson

He was just too much. It was a real phenomenon. He was the last artist to have that much talent and be so popular. He was bigger then anybody before him, and unlike in the past nobody has came by to surpass him yet. All we have is what we had in 80's people copying what he's doing. Now you can debate up and down who was more influential to music overall and who was better and so and so forth. I for one don't think he was the best of the past generation. But when you list current R&B star such as Usher, Ne-Yo, and Justin Timberlake it's undeniable that Michael Jackson has by far had the most influence on these acts, and unlike Michael Jackson himself who was obviously influenced by the likes of James Brown and Jackie Wilson. These artist's have not taken it to the next level. They're only imitating and not innovating.

They say they are influenced by Michael Jackson but I don't hear it. I mean where are their hard jams like "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" or "Workin' Day and Night"?

nod Agree!

But also, even the best power vocalists within the (7th Day Sabbath OR Sunday-Keeping) churches really don't have a desire to be pop culture icons, especially if the industry is look upon as sinful.

And don't forget that image is everything. So unless these church-going vocalists have that sexy "f***able" look, they're never have a shot of Madonna-like or Janet-like success.

Granted, Vainandy hates Whitney for life! lol

But he also know that Mary J. Blige is even more to blame. I told everyone that Janet's janet. & Madonna's Bedtime Stories were release as answers to Mary's What's The 411?.

The idea of "hip-hop soul" began with Sean "P.Dilly" Combs makes tracks that any rapper could have rap on. But instead of Mary rapping, she was singing.

That's a fair enough argument. I agree. Ageless music usually came from singers who were mature, experienced and/or professional with a lifetime of music, as opposed to the latest Disney slut with a fanbase the same as her IQ (12-14).

I never found R&B really all that good. I for one am glad we have bypassed church choir singers, especially those with agonizing over-vocalizing and wretched straining. Fortunately they can only get gigs through Idol shows now. Best they stick to pretender karaoke where they belong.

One of the reasons why R&B sucks, is because those who sign, write and produce for these "so-called" artist are doing so without a plan or formula. If you take a look at the old Motown days, Berry took the time to cultivate his artist. Before a song could be released, it was played in front of a committee. If the song did not get a unanimous vote, it was not released. There is no such thing in today's world. While more and more artist are being made in much the same way a car is rolled off of an assembly line, there results have changed. Everyone is looking for that quick dollar. It is these people that need church. People can blame Michael, Alicia and Beyonce all they want; but the truth is, as long these big corporations that pose as record companies still exist.....the state of music will never change.

Then why are you posting in a thread of a music genre which you supposedly don't like? That makes no sense at all.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!
