Craig David - What's Your Flava?

Did anyone else hear the new song on UK Radio this morning?

I quite liked it but it is my type of thing really. I really like Craid David's stuff and cannot understand why people have a problem with him.

Anyhoo, the song itself, while lyrically not very adventurous, (singing a fine woman's praises, comparing her to a candy/chocolate bar, your typical R'n'B male subject) musically it is a little different to his first album's 2-step, UK garage flavoured feel. Thumping acidy bass-line (similar to Try Again or Freek!), multi-layered vocals that were a little dare I say Princey. A little more mature sounding, Craig uses falsetto and vocal effects. Definitely had a purple feel to it.

New album drops on November 11th I think (same day as TLC's 3D). My wallet will feel a little emptier that day! smile

Co-Sign.

He's piss funny on a show called Bo Selecta on Channel 4 though, funniest thing on UK TV at the moment.

FreezerBurn, SkletonKee, and dewmass,

Why? Please expand on the reasons you think he sucks or makes you want to vom.

I think he is a very talented singer/songwriter. He is a great ambassador for a significant element of the British music scene (but by no means does he represent the whole picture). Sure he has room for improvement lyrically but as a package he has that star quality IMHO. He exudes confidence, always appears humble and polite and in awe of his peers and his influences. I live in Southampton (Craig's hometown) so this may have something to do with the soft spot I have for him but it is mainly because he has a cracking voice and great stage presence. Respect due! smile

That's OK Chico. Born To Do It is one of my favourite albums of recent years too. Best tracks IMHO are Booty Man, Rendezvous, and Fill Me In.

The name of the new album is Slicker Than Your Average. "What's your Flava" is released here in the UK on October 28th.

the two-step fad is trying...it sucks all the soul and life out of songs...

and david just comes off as a poser to me...his vocal style doesnt seem to blend well with his natural voice giving me the same feeling i get when a chalkboard is scratched by fingernails...

Lyrics and 80s new jack swing outtake sound aside I prefer it to his past stuff. That isn't saying much really though.

I think, Craig David is a great artist,

He mixes a lot of styles 2gether, and I think it's sad that he's only seen as an R&B artist

eye am tired of ppl trying 2 COPY the late and great Roger Troutman, where's the identity? :I: thought the last straw was "Teddy's Jam III" on the poor Guy III album but Craig David has taken the censored.

What's your Flava U ask? well, U ain't providing it Craig, that's all I know!

Craig David the UK Usher? Choice FM (UK urban radio station which is more Americanised than a MOBO awards show), shot this song down and when :I: heard it :I: could C Y.

Catchy as hell, but lacks identity. Come on Craig, get it 2gether. Establish a sound 4 the Brits and LOSE THE AUTO-TUNE!!!

I agree on the Auto-tune thing,
But I have 2 say that some of the songs on the new album are very nice, like track #6 the piano ballad.
It's not a Super new found song, but it does have a great vibe,
Hey, You can't Compare an 21 (or 22) artist like Craig David 2 Prince,
But I think he's still growing,
The thing I like about Craig David is also that he's not a tape act, like most of the new Projects/Artists out there 2-day, Everything is Played Live when they Perform,

But Anyway,

Everybody has a different taste and I think that's a good thing!

PS: I really don't like that song, "What's your Flava..."

Peace!

He's cool, not that type who can make a sistah rush 2 the store and buy his record but he's aight.

But you gon have 2 agree wit me that he's a too overrated, I don't like his past stuff at all but this one "Whats yo flava" is TIGHT jam and NOPE I don't have problem when other artists bring the Roger Troutman's sound, matta o' fact I lov it :p sorry DreZone wink

Me neither, I just hoped for a bit of identity, change the carrier sound at least. I wanted 2 hear Craig thru a vocoder, NOT Craig trying 2 B Roger thru a Vocoder...

can't knock it though, he actually PLAYED the vocoder parts!
