Laura Branigan

Do you remember pop singer, Laura Branigan, who had hits in the 80's? She had such a fantastic, strong voice. Though she had a string of hits from 1982-1988, she never recieved the industry respect and accolades she truly deserved - such is pop. She passed away in 2004 of a brain anyurism. I've always loved her music and still do to this day.

Laura Branigan's Top 40 Hits:

1. Gloria (1982)
2. Solitaire (1983)
3. How Am I Supposed To Live Without You (1983)
4. Self Control (1984)
5. The Lucky One (1984)
6. Spanish Eddie (1985)
7. The Power of Love (1988)

Laura Branigan CD's (all on Atlantic Records)

1. Branigan (1982)
2. Branigan 2 (1983)
3. Self Control (1984)
4. Hold Me (1985)
5. Touch (1987)
6. Laura Branigan (1990)
7. Over My Heart (1993)
8. The Best of Branigan (1995)

Wounded Bird Recordss will re-issue Touch, Laura Branigan & Over My Heart on CD in January 2008. Branigan, Branigan 2 and Self Control and The Best of Laura Branigan are still available on CD.

Control is one of my favorite songs when I was a Kid! Such a great pop song. Perfect. It's a shame the org doesn't give cred to her. She was really talented! May her soul rest in peace!

Laura Branigan was a vocal power-house, spanning a four octive vocal range. She was equally effective with up-tempo pop, ballads and dance music. I really love her S.A.W. produced 1987 single "Shattered Glass" and her sexy 1990 single "Moonlight On Water".

Totally agree, i think her and Sheena Easton were the pioneers and Mariah Carey and Celine Dion and even Whitney were their followers.

I never liked that song. I got 2 other versions of it if your interested LOL (like alot of her songs, it was a cover)

I have 3 of her albums

(1984)
-1985 (followup to "self control")
(1990)

Its funny, as I assumed she was european, as her music reflected that. Plus both her albums "self control" and "hold me" have european producers on them (Jack "david hasselhoff" White, Harold "axel f" Faltermeyer).

Even her 1990 album had a few produced by Peter Wolf (european but so American in sound though LOL). Infact, I really like her 1990 album, though, as I said its more American sounding ("reverse psychology" for example, which I love)

She also did a killer cheesy as hell euro pop cut for Cerrone called "heart of me", which may be worth a seek if you dont have it already

Her other official album covers.....

BRANIGAN (1982) Contains the hit single "Gloria".

BRANIGAN 2 (1983) Contains the hit singles "Solitaire" & "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You".

TOUCH (1987) Contains the dance hit "Shattered Glass" and the Top 40 single "The Power of Love".

OVER MY HEART (1993) Contains the singles "Didn't We Almost Win It All" & "How Can I Help You To Say Goodbye". I absolutely love this song (so sad).

THE BEST OF BRANIGAN (1995) Contains the single "Dim All The Lights", an excellent remake of the classic Donna Summer song.

I knew Michael Bolton co-wrote "how am i suppose.....", and also, the song later made a big hit by Cher, "I found someone", was also a Bolton co-write.
