Duran Duran Appreciation Thread

New Album Out tomorrow! woot!

I've been going through a Durannie phase lately and really appreciate thier pop sensibilities. Many of thier songs are instantly recognizable from the get go. My favorite "phase" is probably the 7 & Ragged Tiger through View to a Kill, though it wasn't until Big Thing that I really got into them.

I do think them as a singles band as opposed to an Album band with a few exceptions like the Wedding Album and perhaps Big Thing.

Anyone else like these guys?

I'm not terribly familiar with their album material pre Big Thing. We have Rio in the house, I rarely listen to it.

I have Big Thing, Wedding Album, Thank you & Astronaut. I know shocking I don't have the earlier ones. Oh and I have Arena on Vinyl. I have 2 of them, yet am uncertain how I aquired either. I am thinking of getting 7 and the Ragged Tiger, but I have heard not such great things about it. IMO, their music has gotten better over the years thoguh the singles aren't as strong.

You definitely need to spend more time with the first two albums. The self-titled debut is good ("Anyone Out There" is the highlight outside of the three singles). Rio is absolutely outstanding; there isn't a lackluster track on it. You should pull it out today.

I heart Duran Duran! They were on Howard Stern recently and were charming as ever and sounded great.

SoulAlive

my favorite Duran Duran songs:

"Is There Something I Should Know" (1983)
"Save A Prayer" (1982)
"The Reflex" (1983)
"Wild Boys" (1984)

I really have no desire to listen to their new stuff boxed but their 80s hits are classic.
