That's true. On the other hand, her songs were their rejects.

I'll agree that while I love Secret Rendevous, it does sound like a Control-era Janet Jackson knockoff. biggrin

yeah, and that song "Romantic" was the most generic outtake from Rhythm Nation you could ever dream up lol

IMO, "Romantic" sounded like an L.A. and Babyface-produced song -- particularly, it sounded similar to Sheena Easton's "The Lover in Me." I thought Karyn White had a better chemistry working with LaFace's songs than with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' touch.

i love her, have all her albums. She was apparently suuposed to release an album this year.

She released a greatest hits though with two new songs "all i do" and "disconnected" which were pleasant but not anything to shout about.

Still love her though and think "love saw it" is one of the greatest duets ever!

confuse

Now I know you dislike people who do alot of boring ballads wink but Karyn came out with some cool uptempo jams too...

"The Facts Of Love" Jeff Lorber featuring Karyn White (1986)
"The Way You Love Me" (1988)
"Noon Rendezvous" (1988)

She could groove! I like her entire first album, produced by LA and Babyface

"The Way You Love Me" was probably the best sounding thing I heard coming from her. I didn't buy any of her music so I don't know what else might be on the albums. However, "The Way You Love Me" sounds like a weaker version of a Jam and Lewis production that was made with the hopes of crossing over (like so many other songs of the late 80s). I don't want a song to sound crossoverish whatsoever.....not even in the least. Keep the funk hard and strong and fuck the pop fans. lol

Also, her music sounded too frilly and feminine like a spring fresh flowery dress (yuck). I like females that are strong sluts and whores. Madame X was more my speed. lol

The beginning of "Hooked on You" from Ritual of Love is very Prince-ish (mid 80s). Great album, great artist.

Had about half a dozen great tracks and sang the shit out of 'em all. Fact is though if she was around today her music would be no better than anyone else's. Her songs typified the time then and they would typify the time now if she were here.

I still have to do a double take when I look at the credits and see "the way I feel about you" is not a jam/lewis cut.
