The newly foreshortened Duran Duran opened. It was a strange road trip. I went with my girlfriend and her mother & aunt. We were pretty embarassed at the adults' drunken antics. At one point her mom (who of course was there for Bowie) screamed 'Simon Le Bon is a douche bag!!!' like it was going to get them of the stage. Her aunt flashed her boobs. It was a little much for our younger, delicate sensitivities. I thought the Glass Spider was a fun, thatrical show. It wasn't a bad intro to Bowie. I mean, it was utter nonsense, but visually stimulating (except for the actual spider). i think the glass spider tour is the worst, most embarrassing, most sacreligious use of bowie music yet known to man. and i'm not in the minority with that opinion. BUT. i would have KILLED to see that mess live and in person, especially since 1987 was the year i first got seriously interested in bowie and he could have been farting his greatest hits out of his butt and i would have levitated in my chair with tears in my eyes. LUCKY!!! I saw the released DVD for Glass Spider at the record store the other day...I just can't do it. I know the mysticism & the dream would be completely shattered... LUCKY!!! I caught this with my best friend at the time, who was a total Bowie fanatic. I dunno. I thought it was a pretty good show. The spider was a bit cheesy, but overall it was a nice spectacle.
