i wish youtube had the "concert" version of the same song above (and I've seen that version shown on MuchMoreMusic canada) because that's how I remember the show.

My next concert after Kool & the Gang was Janet Jackson ...
then the metal years began.

Def Leppard/Guns N' Roses , Motley Crue, Kiss and many more metal bands, then my first prince concert, then back to rock/metal.

You went to a concert when you were five? smile

Actually I remember now that when I saw Björk a few months ago, there was a woman there with her infant strapped to her chest. That's really early.

Jerry Lee Lewis at Kings Hall, Belle Vue, Manchester circa 1976. My dad couldn't get a babysitter so he took me along.

nod The first concert I saw. I went with my mom and sisters. It was rush seating (!) (not assigned) and that was sorta scary when they let everyone run in.

I remember the show being stopped halfway through as the stage was invaded by Teddy Boys who had even managed to climb up into the lighting rig. Jerry Lee only returned after the stage was cleared 15 minutes later. My first ever gig and it was a "mini-riot" cool

New Edition @ the James L Knight center, Miami FL. Can't recall the year (83? 84? 85?) It was a surprise. We drove up to the theatre and I saw a sign that said New Edition parking.... OMG! Me and my little sister freaked out. I don't remember much but dancing my little butt off, and us being the only non African American people in there!! LOL. We had a blast. Still LOVE Ralph Tresvant to this day.... wink

Okay, okay - some Boys II Men concert. I didn't even want to go, I'd never been a fan but a relative had an extra ticket so I went.

David Bowie "Glass Spider Tour", Portland, OR Civic Stadium. 1987 (?)

The newly foreshortened Duran Duran opened.

It was a strange road trip. I went with my girlfriend and her mother & aunt. We were pretty embarassed at the adults' drunken antics. At one point her mom (who of course was there for Bowie) screamed 'Simon Le Bon is a douche bag!!!' like it was going to get them of the stage. Her aunt flashed her boobs. It was a little much for our younger, delicate sensitivities.

I thought the Glass Spider was a fun, thatrical show. It wasn't a bad intro to Bowie. I mean, it was utter nonsense, but visually stimulating (except for the actual spider).

Teddy Boys were the original British rock & roll fans, greased back hair etc... those early photos of John Lennon & The Beatles is a good indication.

i think the glass spider tour is the worst, most embarrassing, most sacreligious use of bowie music yet known to man. and i'm not in the minority with that opinion. BUT. i would have KILLED to see that mess live and in person, especially since 1987 was the year i first got seriously interested in bowie and he could have been farting his greatest hits out of his butt and i would have levitated in my chair with tears in my eyes. LUCKY!!!

I was nine years old and my godmother got me front row tickets in a V.I.P. section to see

with

as the opening act.

I was so in love with MJ I could barely breathe. Fortunately, we could actually *hear* the music because the V.I.P. section was at the front but to the side of the stage. There was so much screaming everywhere else. But I was in a love coma and couldn't take my eyes off MJ. I'll never forget that!

My first concert however was the commodores(lionel richies last tour with the band),maze, and cheryl lynn in 1982.

You just cleared up a mystery for me. I knew I had been to the Jackson 5 concert when I was very young (6 or 7), but I have memories of seeing the Commodores too that I couldn't place. Thanks. My mom was into Motown deep so I also saw a Smokey concert in the early 80's, but Jackson 5 whens for the first. I have yet to take any of my kids to a Prince concert even though my youngest wants to go.
