One of the MAIN reasons the Ohio Players stood out from all of the other funk bands were their grasp of songs like this. They were always able to showcase their musicianship in the structure of a well written and well produced song and STILL have it in a Top 40 radio format. That in itself, is an artform. And that's where I think their genius is. That's something that they taught Parliament and that P-Funk embraced later on.But usually whenever a band would try to stretch and showcase thei musical chops, the overall song would drift and therefore suffer. NEVER in the case of the Ohio Players. They were much better at doing this than many rock bands as well. They laid the blueprint down as the premire funk/rock band EVER as to still throwdaown and at the same time keeping it accessible to the average radio listener at that time.
