Gil Scott Heron-HIV POSITIVE??

From wikipedia.org

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Scott_Heron

On July 5, 2006, Scott-Heron was sentenced to two to four years in a New York State prison for violating a plea deal on a drug-possession charge by leaving a treatment center. Scott-Heron said he is HIV-positive and claimed the in-patient rehabilitation center stopped giving him his medication. The prosecution countered that Scott-Heron had once skipped out for an appearance with singer Alicia Keys.[3] Scott-Heron's sentence was to run until July 13, 2009. He was paroled on May 23, 2007.[4] He has since begun performing live again, starting with a show at SOBs in New York on 13 September 2007. On stage, he stated that he and his musicians were working on a new album, and that he had resumed writing a book entitled "The Last Holiday" (previously on long-term hiatus) about Stevie Wonder and his successful attempt to have Martin Luther King's birthday made a national holiday in the USA. Gil was arrested October 10, the day before a second SOB'S performance scheduled for October 11, 2007 on felony posession of cocaine charges.

This is really sad. Gil Scott is one of my favorite poets!!!

I think its more sad that hes a drug user and a felon, than him being positive.

He was groovin'
That's when he could've sworn the room was movin'
but that was only in his mind.
He was sailing
he never really seemed to notice
vision failing
but that was only part of the high.
Sweat was pouring
he couldn't take it
The room was exploding
he might not make it
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

That's a lot to overcome, but it doesn't have to be the end. God Bless GSH.

Poor Gil. Sad how he succumbed to the very things he warned against in his songs.

Indeed. For those who can afford it (key words) HIV is a manageable chronic illness.

Maybe he was warning people not to get into the same mess he got into.
