Superstar

by Bonnie Bramlett & Leon Russell

Long ago and so far away,
I fell in love with you before the second show.
And your guitar just sounds so sweet and clear,
but you're not really here.
It's just the radio.

Don't you remember you told me you loved me, baby?
Said you'd be comin' back this way again, baby.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you.

Loneliness is such a sad affair.
And I can hardly wait, oh,
just to sleep with you again.
What can I say to have you come again?
Come back and play, yeah,
you could play, you could play,
play that sad guitar.

Don't you remember you told me you loved me, baby?
Yes, you said you'd be comin' back this way again, baby.
You called me baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you.

You know, loneliness is such a sad affair.
And I, I can hardly wait
just to sleep with him again.
What can I say to have him come back again?
He could come back and he could play,
play his sad guitar.
Don't you remember you told me you loved me?
Said you'd be coming back again, baby.
He called me baby.
Baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you, I really do.

Leon Russell co-created a masterpiece with this song right here! Luther's version still sends chills up my spine.

sonic youth has (or used to have) a bit of an obsession with karen carpenter. they wrote a song about her called "tunic" on their "goo" album.

I remember seeing amateurs perform "Superstar" on The Apollo and lighting it up with that one. I guess it was off the popularity of Luther's version?

I wasnt saying it was bad..I was talking about funk from the mothership (perish the thought!!), their funk is horrible!

I like the Carpernters...I was just saying that i will never dance.

Same here. His version just leaves me feeling so depressed confused It's so powerful and so emotional, you can feel his pain in the way he sings those lyrics, especially during the fade-out...

I wonder....where are you again,tonight
and are you holding someone else real tight?

this is real soulful drama!

it's actually very good. i used to listen to it on cassette all the time...i need to replace it on CD one of these days. lots of hipster 80s/90s alterna-bands doing very earnest interpretations of carpenters hits. it's one of the very few times i've really enjoyed a cheryl crow recording!

I just expected you to spell it right because she's been a pop artist since 1993!

I don't mind Chelby Linz.
