Best of Soul Train - 11/3/07

What's up y'all? Once again, it's the one and only Vain Andy holding it down for the legendary Audience (TA) who is out of town this weekend. When he asked me if I could take over this weekend I decided to REALLY trip y'all out and look into my crystal ball. That way I could see into the future and show y'all the episode before it even goes on the air. Hey, what can I say? I got it like that.

Anyway, this week's episode features The Fifth Dimension, Al Wilson, and Formula Four.

Loose Booty - Sly and the Family Stone

Performance: We Willie Sweet Wine - Formula Four

Scramble Board (James Brown): Hey Foxy - The Meters

Interview: Mark Gordon

We Need Just A Little More Time - The Mighty Clouds of Joy

Performance: La La Peace - Al Wilson and Formula Four

You're My First, The Last, You're My Everything - Barry White

Performance: Soul and Inspiration - The Fifth Dimension

In The Bottle - Brother to Brother

Performance: Willa Bee Brook - Al Wilson

Line Dance: Cold Blooded - James Brown

Performance: The Fifth Dimension

I would say "as always in parting" but we can't part since you haven't even seen the episode yet. So I will say until we get together this morning or afternoon according to your time zone, I wish you future love....peace....and SOUL!

I've been trying to find a copy of that Brother To Brother album that has 'In The Bottle' on it. No luck thus far. Guess I need to order it from GEMM or something.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I thought it was a decent episode. I enjoyed The Fifth Dimension's performance of "Harlem" I really enjoyed hearing Sly and the Family Stone's "Loose Booty" which I had never heard before. I have their anthology and it's not on there. I don't know why because it's funkier than anything on it.

Anyway, "Soul Train" also airs on Friday nights at 3:00 a.m. in my area on the local channel. I just happened to be up last Friday so I recorded it early. Actually, I was thinking Graham Central Station was going to be on there and I didn't want to miss that. Remember that thread that someone made last week?

Interesting you say that because I listened to that song all the time on MusicChoice on the Classic R&B channel. That's how I discover it. "Loose Booty" is one of the funkiest songs Sly ever did.

The oldies station down here only plays "Thanyoufalettenmebemicelfe" (I think that's how it's spelled) over and over and over and over and over again. You-know-who owns the station.

Yep and that's a fucking shame because Sly actually had better songs than the song you named.

That's what I meant actually. wink It's so awesome that he had to make better songs. But in truth, everything Sly put out during his glory years (1967-1974) was AMAZING.

That was the first time I ever hear JB's Coldblooded, that track was funky (it's only available on one JB compilation "Dead on the Heavy Funk: 1975-1983" and I don't own it.)
