Hello RipHer2Shreds. It's been a while since I've seen you. It's good to see you back. While I'm reminding you of things, may I remind you of who's behind that song. Remember my favorite album cover? lol

Heavens to Betsy! Don't tell me that dude on the beach wearing the croth hammock?

Yep, that's the one. He also was wearing a fur vest. lol

The Dazz Band had an album in 2001? How was it? Wait a minute, don't tell me. I don't think I want to know. lol

The name of the album was time traveler. It was an album of new r&b material and a little bit of jazz. Go to yahoo or spun.com and see if you can track it down. I haven't heard the whole album but i know you probably are thinking it sold out to shit hop. lol
I meant amazon or spun.com

Ahh, memories. Reminds me of listening to late night radio, sitting in the back seat of my brother-in-law's ride, puffing on a giant pink (rolled in Strawberry papers) joint, back in the late 70's. The vibe was magical. I wish I could ride those radio waves, on that thick cloud of smoke, all the way back to those days. Great Song / Fun Times.

I know what you mean!! I grew up in the 70s and there was just something "magical" about that time. The world was a wonderful place.

I remember hearing that jam when it first dropped in the early 70's. And the amazing thing about it, the lyrics and groove still have that mellow slow groove. I would've loved to heard this song live. I heard back in the Normon would duet this song along with his fellow Philly native Phyllis Hyman who toured with him.
whistle " Yes You are my starship. Come take me up tonight and don't be late. And don't you come too soon".

nod I heard her rendition of the song. She gave it a great shot but she couldn't light a candle to the late great Phyllis Hyman' version.

I haven't heard Phyllis' version yet. I need to peep that then.

eek Are you high? I know many people think of their childhoods as magical, but the 70s? Wonderful? Inflation, Vietnam, hostage crises, Watergate, Kent State, Attica, oil embargoes. We must be in a pretty magical time now, too. biggrin

cant speak for soulalive, but even thouhgh all that was going on, as a child I was sheltered from it. Didnt affect my everday day-to-day. It was all about music, family, and childhood things cool From a musical standpoint SOUL disco, punk, new wave, pop all had a little lift to them. I think they were good days too.

No, I get what you're saying. I understand referring to one's childhood as wonderful, but to describe the world of the 1970s as a "wonderful place" feels like an overstatement. lol Granted, you could probably describe any modern decade as a mess, but anyway.

Yay 70s music. woot!

That is such an excellent point. And back in those days, The 70's, I had a science teacher, Mrs. Baumgartner, that used to have this sign hanging over the entrance to her class that read: "These Are The Good Old Days!" And we used to laugh at that sign everyday, often citing examples like those listed above; inflation, Vietnam, etc. We used to say to her "Man, if these are the good old days, then we're screwed!" And she'd just smile back at us and say, "You'll see".

Now, Flash-Forward 30 Years! And you know what? Mrs. Baumgartner WAS right! Those WERE the good old days, in spite of all the drama that was going on at the time. And as crazy as it seems, when you say "We must be in a pretty magical time now, too." You are so right on. Cause there's always gonna be some shit going on in the world, and in our lives. How we process it all out is what makes the difference by the end of the day. Damn nearly 2008 - And you know what? These Are The Good Old Days.

nod Absolutely. Music was going through a pivitol transition which for alot us was great time especially with the many artist which sprung up after Woodstoock.Music during the 70's infused beat of street and was a commentary on what was going on during the times and it didn't matter if the genre was Rock,Disco,Funk, Punk, Disco, Folk or Jazz.

OMG!! What a beautiful song. Yeah! His voice was so soothing and dripping with emotion. I believed every word from the lyrics he was singing because he was pleading with the woman to take him up tonight, not to come too late or too soon. OMG!!! I so love that song. razz

Thanks for the thread. It's such a beautiful gem of a song.

A great song. Another song from that period that also had that atmospheric feel of longing is The Isley Brothers' "Voyage to Atlantis."
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

That's another thing that's missing from today's music, which is fantasy. "You Are My Starship" made me feel like I was off in outer space. "Voyage To Atlantis" made me feel like I was deep underwater. Today's music makes me feel like I'm in ghetto hell. Hell, when I listen to music, I want to escape my problems. I don't want to be reminded of them. lol Of course, today's generation is into everything reality from music to TV shows.

I agree. Rick's version was horrible. Michael Henderson did an amazing job on this track. I have several of his albums on cd. They are all decent.

You guys are too harsh, Rick's version wasn't as good as the original, but it had a different vibe to it and I thought it was good. It wasn't as bad as you guys make it.
