Anyone who paid for this got taken.

Radiohead must not support its fans all that much if they're going to have a "pay what you want" and then release the CD in time for Christmas, but not only that, the SAME ALBUM with BONUS TRACKS! What a bunch of assholes!

So if you paid for download, you have to pay AGAIN if you want the ENTIRE album and in good audio quality. Again, what a bunch of assholes.

I could see the point in getting bent out of shape about people paying nothing for the album if they weren't going to release it on CD, but obviously they had planned on doing this from day one.

And you guys wonder why no one wants to pay for music anymore? Not only do we have to worry about getting fucked over by some major label, but now we have to worry about getting fucked by the artists too!? mad

Radiohead made it clear in their announcement that the download would be available on one day, and the hard copy would be available in December. They even provided an option for you to pre-order the hard copy AND get an automatic download to the new record.

How was anyone taken by this? You people have been fucked by Prince too many times, now you just instinctively think everyone is out to get you.

i thought everyone understood an physical copy would be available. no?

I don't know if that's true or not. Either way, it's really shitty of Radiohead to do that (put new tracks on a physical release of he album after people have already paid for it).

It's still a shitty move. Did they mention when the download was up that the CD would have tracks you couldn't get on the download? If it were no more than a physical copy of the record, that's one thing, but to put in extra content after the fact and expect that people will shell out money AGAIN and for the SAME album they bought a couple months back?

It's one thing when Usher or Beyonce do it, they're kitchen appliances of their labels. I'd EXPECT that they would do something like that. But Radiohead has a die hard following of people who WILL buy their records without fail. Why they'd do something like this when they have a fan base that will shell out their money is beyond me.

They should have either put out an album of entirely new material, separate from the download, put out exactly the same thing that was in the download, or just made the album a download-only format. It just makes the people who paid for the download seem foolish.

By the way, I've never been fucked by Prince. I'm just saying, if I were a Radiohead fan, I'd feel mighty taken advantage of if I had paid for this download.

When they offered the album download (pay what you want) they also offered the "Discbox" which includes an additional disc of unreleased/rare stuff. The Discbox has 2CDs and 2LPs. They advertised it all at the same time. It was the price (80 pounds) that was prohibitive for most.

I have been screwed over by Prince. Here are just a few examples:

• Crystal ball: ordered it "exclusively" online, then it was at Best Buy months before mine came in the mail.
• NPGMC: promised 4 albums (with titles); ended up getting ONA and ONA LIVE! . . . he hastily released C-Note and Xpectation to appease fans
• NPGMC: preferred seating for the Detroit Musicology tour were worse than General Public; I had some of the worst concert tix in my life!
• Musicology Store: bought Slaughterhouse, Chocolate Factory - he shut down the site so they do not work anymore.

I have never had a problem with the ordering/delivery of any promised music except for Prince's.

#2..they shouldnt have let it be available 4 free in the first place
[Edited 11/6/07 21:31pm]

1.2 million or howevermany got the album via their web site as opposed to via illegal download leakage. that's an artistic success, as most of the fans got the music the way the artist intended. kind of a rarity these days.

and given the method of the offer, i'm sure that even as cheap as most fans were, radiohead wasn't exactly ouching at the end of the day. i think it was more of an experiment/statement than radiohead trying to release their own "crystal ball" project.

oh gag. you just ruined a perfectly good thread. sad

Dude chill pill

I'm not a Radiohead fan, I'm just going on what I've read about the deal in the New York Times and by what various friends of mine who DID pay for the downloads have said. Either way, I'm sure they didn't say there were going to be bonus materials on the CD did they? So they offered a overpriced box set and they said there'd be a CD, but they didn't say the CD wouldn't be a complete package did they?

Well, if you want to split hairs, they didn't really offer it for FREE. They were hoping people would pay for it. But I guess they had to have known a lot of people wouldn't pay. I mean, you'd assume that in today's climate, right?
