I'm listening to Lesson Learned right now and it's a bit mind boggling how anyone can possibly like that song. I just don't understand. On I Need You she had the perfect opportunity to kill it at the end on the piano, but as usual, she kept it simple. I'm actually starting to wonder if she even knows how to play the piano? I think Alicia has brilliant ideas, but she doesn't know how to execute them properly or really build on them. She wows me a lot, but it's always in short spurts. Classically trained my ass. She can memorized a hand full of so called classic songs. This woman is a POSER plain and simple.

Alicia and her partner did. As far as her playing, I saw old footage of her when she was about 13/14 playing some classical song. It didn't look or seem extremely difficult, but I know for sure that I couldn't play it. Studiotraffic-One of the fastest ways to get payed on the net!

Sigged! I don't know what y'all were expecting. She was signed by Clive Davis. The man is here to put out calculated, one hit pop bullshit. The fact that she's still around is because she does what Clive tells her to do. If Clive tells her to put out an album of tepid, half-baked, boring, hip hop influenced crap, that's what she's gotta do if she wants to have a career. i don't know that she's above the stuff she's putting out, but she's certainly not a big enough star to break away from Clive. She has said in the past Clive lets her do what she wants. I really don't think Clive would tell her to make some of the mediocre stuff she has done. She has only had one phenomenal song per album. This one doesn't have anything on there that I think will be a major power hit

Well, the way she was singing to Ruby on the piano.... I've seen her sing that way to other women, like she was in love

I saw this video the other day and finally realized that was a really nice little piece. If I'm not mistaken, I think Alicia and Ray Chew composed it. Right after the song the deejay lit into her about making sure she gives Prince some songwriting credit. Then people started calling in the station with all sorts of Prince references.

I really like "Lesson Learned". I would have liked to have heard more of John Mayer tho. Other than his musicianship maybe, his presence is kinda pointless. love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game

As i stated before on alicia while she is talented, she hasn't done nothing that people in my age group 37 and up haven't seen. I guess to the new generation what she does is considered extraordinary because only about 10 percent actually plays music in some form. She produces, composes, and arranges her own music. So what roberta flack did that thirty something years ago. Patrice Rushen and teena marie have been doing it since the late 70's. I like the radio singles somewhat from alicia's first album but the rest of it sucked big time. Her second album was pretty good imo. I am just not feeling the songs from this new release. No one sucks ass big time. That song is just plain horrible. Also the way alicia composes her music is stale in comparison to the way roberta, teena, and patrice did it. They would take their time and select outstanding musicians to perform and perfect their craft where sometimes alicia's music sounds like it was composed for romper room. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I generally agree. For the most part, I like her first two albums. Nothing grondbreaking, but really solid and some great songs. I haven't heard the new album in full yet, but I think "No One" is horrible and her vocals are awful. And, I'm saying this about an artist I generally like. Hope the rest of the album is better.

http://www.buffalonews.co...06544.html That is a good review, however, I have heard her say numerous times she grew up on hip hop and wants to incorporate that in her music. I never got the impression she was stifled. Someone told me she really wanted that older audience which is why she's heavy on the remaking and sampling of old songs. Most of her fans are younger than her and probably don't know alot of what she's biting. I've been on her message boards. They're not too bright I guess that reviewer is still keeping hope in Pandora's box, since this is only her 3rd studo album, but I think the only way for Alicia to wow any of us skeptics is to break away from r&b all together and go Elton Johninsh. Shit, I prefer her contemporaries piano playing opposed to hers: Vanessa Carlton, John Legend, and Taylor Hanson. She should collaborate with all of them. Leave Krucial to just drum programming

I think she's trying to break a way from it now, and it's not "fitting" her as well in my opinion. I was a little clearer on what I wanted to hear from her, now I'm not so sure. alicia keys has always been boring.... and NEVER had any sex appeal... she has nice features.. but just nothing sexy about her
she is trying right now to have sex appeal... but im not buying it... and every video she is playing a piano..... im sorry i just like artist who are more exciting.....

There is no piano in her new video.
Anyway, I LOVE the CD now. I just "got it" yesterday and it's brilliant. Of course, there are talented people that deserve the same success Alicia has, but this is probably one of the best commercial CD's this year. The music isn't the same as on SIAM, but Alicia has picked it up lyrically. The piano touches that she adds on songs like No One, LYNSMA(the beginning), and Lesson Learned(the bridge) are brilliant, just for the simple fact that she doesn't do too much or too little, but lets her talent be shown.
