The music industry has to kick in with sales, I mean, the latest albums on sales have been low for those who have hit number one and the main reason why some albums did 500-700K in the first place was either because of hype (50, Kanye) or they had a loyal fan base (Bruce). Oh i agree with that all the way, i just wish they would have used a real music retailer that was supporting music, but hey thats me. But i agree, i would like to see them start taking into account artist sites sales too, cause alot of older acts sell there stuff mostly there because the Big box stores dont stock them and of course they cant even chart that way., "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

LOL!
Well, this is going to wind up selling even fewer copies than 20 Y.O., which opened at #2 with 296k. And it also means Janet remains the only female artist to have five consecutive studio albums reach #1. [Edited 11/7/07 7:17am]

lastdecember said: Im still questioning these numbers, not that i doubt the Eagles popularity at all and like their music, soemthing is up here. 700,000 units at one retailer? there are alot of things in question here, the price is a major issue, since its price at 11.88 this technically doesnt qualify as an album since that would put each disc at 5.94 which is over a dollar less than the price accepted for an EP to chart on the album charts, this could be called "dumping" a term that was invented when Destinys Child and Mariah Carey had singles priced at 49 cents debut at number 1 and 2. So im not doubting or debating the Eagles, since they have always sold well and its 30 years since their last studio record and this is billed as their last work, but i simply dont trust Walmart and its ways.
The album technically isn't long enough to qualify as a double album, according to Billboard/RIAA. [Edited 11/7/07 6:36am]

Well, all in all, I think Britney Spears did alright considering that she did almost no promotion for this album.
I mean, if she does not seem to care about her new music, why expect others to? As for the Backstreet Boys, damn. Surprised to find out that they are still together, and coming out with new material.

It was actually hitsdailydouble that projected 350,000, not Jive. Even jive had it at 330-350k she sold 124k first day as a general industry rule it is supposed to be 2.5 times the first day total but that falls below 2.5 times for younger fanbases and if the release is highly publicized! which in both cases worked agianst her! Hits had it even at 400k on its first prediction but billboard had predicted she would do between 200-300k from t he onset [Edited 11/7/07 8:28am]

Eagles Fly Ahead Of Britney Spears On Billboard 200
November 07, 2007 EAGLES Editor: Keith Caulfield; Contributors: Anthony Colombo, Jose Promis, Alex Vitoulis; Editorial Director: Geoff Mayfield "Long Road out of Eden," the Eagles' first full-length studio album since 1979's "The Long Run," debuts at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums with a whopping 711,000 -- the second-largest sales week of the year. "Eden" was sold exclusively through Wal-Mart, its Web site, Sam's Club and the Eagles' official Web site ... Britney Spears' "Blackout" settles for the runner-up slot with a still-handsome 290,000 ... The Billboard 200's top 10 also welcomes bows from Avenged Sevenfold, Josh Turner, Backstreet Boys and Andrea Bocelli ... Revamped and reissued editions of Flyleaf and Jonas Brothers' respective albums yield big jumps ... And Christmas is very much in the air on the charts, now that Halloween has passed, as a number of holiday efforts post handsome gains. FLASH POINTS • The Eagles' "Long Road out of Eden" blasts onto The Billboard 200 at No. 1 with 711,000 -- the second-largest sales week of the year, trailing only Kanye West's 960,000 debut with "Graduation." Since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, Eagles' previous best sales week came during Christmas week of 1994 when "Hell Freezes Over" moved 588,000. "Long Road out of Eden" marks the legendary band's sixth No. 1 album, stretching back to 1975's "One of These Nights." Only three other groups in the history of The Billboard 200 have more No. 1s -- the Beatles (19), the Rolling Stones (nine) and Led Zeppelin (seven). • "Long Road out of Eden" was sold exclusively through Wal-Mart, its Web site, Sam's Club and the Eagles' official Web site. In consultation with Nielsen SoundScan, Billboard will now allow exclusive album titles that are only available through one retailer to appear on The Billboard 200 and other Billboard charts, effective with this week's charts. Prior to this, proprietary titles were not eligible to appear on most Billboard charts. Previously, titles that were not generally available at retail were not eligible to appear on The Billboard 200, but were entitled to chart on Billboard's Top Comprehensive Albums list, which includes catalog titles and proprietary albums from retailers willing to report those sales. • Britney Spears debuts at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 with "Blackout," selling 290,000. Her previous four studio sets all opened atop the chart. She earns the distinction of being the only woman to see her first five studio albums debut in the top two slots on the chart ... Spears' last studio effort, 2003's "In the Zone," started with 609,000. Previous to that, she entered atop the big chart with "Britney" (746,000 in 2001), "Oops! ... I Did It Again" (1,319,000 in 2000) and "... Baby One More Time" (121,000 in 1999). After "In the Zone," she issued the best-of compilation "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative" in 2004 (No. 4 debut with 255,000) and the remix collection "B in the Mix: The Remixes" in 2005 (No. 134 debut with 14,000) ... Last week's No. 1, Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride," slips to No. 3, selling 170,000 (down 68%). • Rock band Avenged Sevenfold easily notches its best sales week yet as its fourth full-length album bows at No. 4 with 94,000. The group's last set, 2005's "City of Evil," debuted and peaked at No. 30 when it opened with 33,000. The band's second album, 2003's "Waking the Fallen," missed The Billboard 200 but peaked at No. 15 on the Top Heatseekers chart. Its first album, 2001's "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet," didn't reach any Billboard tally ... Country singer Josh Turner scores his second top 10 album on The Billboard 200 as "Everything Is Fine" starts with 84,000 at No. 5. It also begins at No. 2 on Top Country Albums. The album's lead single, "Firecracker," holds at No. 8 with a bullet on the Hot Country Songs chart this week. • Spears' Jive labelmates Backstreet Boys also debut this week as the group's "Unbreakable" bows at No. 7 with 81,000. The act, now reduced to a quartet after the departure of Kevin Richardson, saw its last album, "Never Gone," start at No. 3 with 291,000 in 2005 ... Andrea Bocelli's first greatest-hits collection, "The Best of Andrea Bocelli: Vivere," begins at No. 9 on The Billboard 200 with 68,000 ... In non-debut news this week, thanks to the rerelease of Jonas Brothers' self-titled album last week, the set zooms from No. 44 to No. 20 with a 90% gain. The reissue, subtitled "The Bonus Jonas Edition," comes equipped with two extra audio tracks (including one with Miley Cyrus) and a DVD. Speaking of rereleases, Flyleaf did the same thing last week, augmenting its self-titled set with an assortment of acoustic tracks and a DVD with numerous videos. The album jumps from No. 121 to No. 62 with a 124% gain. MARKET WATCH • Album units, current chart week: 9.25 million units • UP 10.9% from last issue's charts: 8.34 million units • DOWN 13.3% from same week, 2006: 10.67 million units • This week: The top three albums sell more than 100,000 copies. • This week last year on The Billboard 200: the soundtrack from Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana" stayed put at No. 1, shifting 203,000 in its second week. Barry Manilow's "Greatest Songs of the Sixties" started in the runner-up slot with 202,000. Five more debuts rounded out the top 10 that week. The top four albums each sold more than 100,000. BORDERLINES • The No. 50 album this week, LeAnn Rimes' "Family," (Curb) sold 16,000. • The No. 50 album for the same week of 2006, "WOW Hits 2007," (Word-Curb/Provident-Integrity/EMI CMG), sold 18,000. • Average total of the No. 50 album for the same week of the year during the past 10 years (1998-2007): 22,740. PROGRESS REPORTS • Now that Halloween is in the rear view mirror and Thanksgiving is fast approaching, Christmas albums on The Billboard 200 are starting to kick into high gear. Josh Groban's "Noel" earns a 16% increase while moving from No. 5 to No. 7. The four debuts ahead of Groban force the title to take a tiny tumble despite his gain. Other holiday albums that gain on the chart this week include Mannheim Steamroller's "Christmas Song" (No. 35, up 41%), Toby Keith's "A Classic Christmas" (No. 72, up 4%), the "Disney Channel Holiday" compilation (No. 98, up 74%) and Michael W. Smith's "It's a Wonderful Christmas" (No. 121, up 27%). Three more Christmas albums debut on The Billboard 200 this week -- Larry the Cable Guy's "Christmastime in Larryland" (No. 105), a Trans-Siberian Orchestra self-titled EP (No. 132) and Elvis Presley's "Home for the Holidays" (No. 165). • This week, Foo Fighters' "The Pretender" hits its 12th week at No. 1 on the Alternative/Modern Rock radio chart. The single is only the 12th in the history of the chart to be No. 1 for 12 weeks or more. The last to do so was Linkin Park's "What I've Done" (15 weeks) earlier this year. Coincidentally, what song was stuck at No. 2 for nine weeks parked behind "Pretender"? Why, Linkin Park's "Bleed It Out," which finally retreats from the runner-up slot this week, slipping to No. 4. Don't cry for Linkin Park though, as its new single "Shadow of the Day" rises from No. 17 to No. 14 on the chart this week. • RBD, the group born out of the Mexican TV soap opera "Rebelde" earlier in the decade, blasts from No. 36 to No. 9 in its second week on the Latin Pop airplay chart with "Inalcanzable." The track's 27-position flight is the seventh-best in the chart's 13-year history. Paulina Rubio set the mark for largest leap when "Ni Una Sola Palabra" rocketed from No. 35 to No. 2 on the Sept. 2, 2006, chart. "Inalcanzable" is RBD's eighth top 10 on the Latin Pop chart and also debuts on the Hot Latin Songs chart at No. 32. (The latter chart surveys all formats of Latin radio, including Pop, Tropical, Rhythm and Regional Mexican.) "Inalcanzable" off the band's fourth Spanish-language studio set, "Empezar Desde Cero," due Nov. 20.

JAY-Z LEADS THREE-WAY RACE
Chris Brown, Garth Brooks Trail in Battle for Next Week’s Chart November 7, 2007 Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella/IDJ album American Gangster, his tribute to the Ridley Scott movie of the same name about legendary Harlem dope dealer Frank Lucas with an Oscar-worthy performance by Denzel Washington, looks like a pretty good shot to take the #1 spot on next week’s HITS Top 50. According to retailers left around this great country of ours, he’s on track to sell between 400-450k. Judging how the Eagles do in their second week—and they will be performing on ABC’s nationally televised Country Music Awards tonight, so you never know—will determine next week’s #1. Barry Weiss’ Team Jive continues its hot streak with the new Chris Brown album, Exclusive, with the smash single, “Kiss Kiss,” which appears headed for at the very least the Top Three and maybe even higher with between 300-350k. The independently distribbed Garth Brooks album Ultimate Hits on Scott Borchetta’s Pearl Records imprint looks like it will do between 200-250k, though the CMAs could boost that number significantly. Rapper Cassidy’s B.A.R.S. The Barry Adrian Reese Story, his new Full Surface/Ruff Ryders/J album, is on target for 70-80k Suretone/Geffen’s Angels and Airwaves, the blink-182 spin-off, is looking at 65-75k. Thanks to the Eagles, the market was up 11% vs last week, down 13% vs same week last year and now down 14.5% year-to-date.

Chris Brown, Garth Brooks Trail in Battle for Next Week’s Chart November 7, 2007 Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella/IDJ album American Gangster, his tribute to the Ridley Scott movie of the same name about legendary Harlem dope dealer Frank Lucas with an Oscar-worthy performance by Denzel Washington, looks like a pretty good shot to take the #1 spot on next week’s HITS Top 50. saw the movie American Gangster tonight. Good film!
