Well lets honest here, this is all about control nothing more. Prince is upset that people are not over at 3121 talking, they are on other sites talking, and he cant control that, over at 3121 anything can and will be deleted. As for the other icons like him, I think they all to some extent embraced their websites, I know Mariah Carey despite having an Official Club, has also allowed a site like MariahDaily to flourish and has given them exclusives many times, and Mariah is a star, she looks it, walks it, talks it, struts it 24/7 like a star and still is for the most part open to other sites doing their thing. The issue here is that Prince will come off as being nothing but a "secluded extrovert", which is cool if thats what he wants to do, but he cant play it up like he's two things, on one hand doing interviews saying hes normal and approachable and then in the next breath taking down sites that discuss him, its one or the other and he needs to choose who he is.

If there's one thing he's failed at (besides rap, lol) is failing to cater to people who put him where he is in the first place - his fans. At the end of the day, they're all a star has anyway. Hopefully he WILL see the light but I'm doubting that right now.

Beside them, you can also ask the same question about the potential of other recording artists doing the same thing that Prince is doing, which is basically going freaking rogue by declaring war on fan sites.

Oh, I agree. Sometimes I think he takes the bitch diva role a little too far but I would never want to see him being one of those stars that stands on the edge of the stage after a performance and shakes hands and signs autographs for any and everybody that wants one. I like his larger than life untouchable image. I also like his mysterious image. If he were to do too much talking, we would soon find out that he's just a normal average everyday guy that just happens to be very talented. We might even get bored with him.

I don't think I've ever gotten fully bored with Prince himself except for certain albums. What I got bored with a long time ago, were the Prince fans who thought he could do no wrong and thought the sun rose and set on his ass. You know the kind, the ones that write sentences full of "u's", "2's", "4's" and use that damn eye symbol for the word "I". They also talk in puzzles like Prince does. That's being a fan to the point of being obsessive. Hell, if Prince does that, hey, that's him. They need to find something to make themselves original.

When I think of Prince, I always think of the guy from 1978-1984 that had a style of his own and the sound was definately "Prince". From 1985 to the present, I don't even consider that music "Prince" music (meaning Prince being strictly Prince), I consider those years as Prince immitating his heros he grew up with such as James Brown, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, etc. It's great music but it doesn't even feel like I'm listening to the same guy I listened to from 1978-1984. It's hard to explain. It's not like he's grown but it's like he's a completely different person altogether.

I still buy each and every album. Hell, I have to. I love funk and who else is making funk these days except Prince? But I come to the org mainly for the "Music: Non-Prince" section. I go over to the Prince section once in a while out of boredom when too many current music threads take over this section. It's always fun to make a Lawrence Welk comment about the "Parade" album and watch the fams go crazy.
