why does jayz get to ride off the success of the movie american gangster? none of his songs are in the movie, his album has absolutely nothing to do with the film yet he is promoting this album, which is named after the film like its connected. this guy always gets prime promotion and marketing, its a shame he dont treat his other artists the same way...never sign with a company where you are competing with the boss.

Um...research: Jay Z made the album after seeing the movie. The whole album is based on a scene in the movie. When the album is released Jay said he has plans to make a video on each song which will be related to the movie, but I guess he is going to have a different storyline. Just like Prince made "Gemini" for Batman. Fortunately, both came unexpectedly — rather than by desperate force — after he saw an advance screening of the early-'70s period piece American Gangster, which played a direct role in nine of the songs on this album of the same name. While several tracks connected to specific scenes are also rooted in productions trading in the regal grit that made up so much '70s soul, the album is not a straight narrative, broken up by tracks like the boom-clap of "Hello Brooklyn 2.0" (produced by Bigg D) and the glitzed-out pair of "I Know" (a half-icing Neptunes layer cake) and "Ignorant Shit" (where Just Blaze transforms the Isleys' quiet storm staple "Between the Sheets" into a high-gloss anthem). Well Jay is still not what he was, this album is an improvement over the last one, but still his work is very "spotty", lots of filler once again, a few good tracks, nothing new, the neptunes track is boring again. It'll be a huge seller for him because of the title plain and simple. Im just glad i got a free copy of the cd because Jay is not who he once was, some artists get better and produce their best work when they are older, but Jay isnt one of them. jay z is a cock rider
prince's batman soundtrack was actually commisioned because Tim Burton the director wanted Prince to do all the music. thats why you hear all the classics like "trust" and "partyman" in the Batman movie. Take out the prince songs, and several integral scenes just won't be the same. I mean, can you imagine any other music being played apart from "partyman" when the Joker defaces an art gallery?!! no way, Batman soundtrack is the Shit! while jay z is a piece of shit!

I always wondered why he had an album of the same name. I'm glad no songs were in the movie. I just figured at this point Jay might be on to something else. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Denzel invite him to see an advance screening and with the blessings of Denzel and Ridley he went in the studio and put together a cd of new songs inspired by the film

That was nice of Denzel but he didn't have to do a whole album. Now I understand Blue Magic a little better. When I think of American Gangster, I don't want to think of JayZ. I guess I'm a little tired of him. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Who cares that Jay Z decided to make his album based off the storyline of this movie. Since you won't be plagued by hearing any of it in the film, what's your issue? I haven't heard the album but its been getting great reviews. love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game

Its so-so, its a total improvement over Kingdom Come which was a disaster, but Jay is still doing albums with WAY too much filler and not enough solid tracks, and his themes are really played out at this point. Overall i would say this record is just OK maybe a 5 out of 10. Yeah I also heard the album and think its average. I think its time that Jay just concentrate on his corporate job. This "coming out of retirement when I get ready" mind frame is old. I thought Kingdom Come was total garbage, I only listen to the very first track and that's it.
As far as this album, I think its was tacky to use the name of a movie to name your album after that had nothing to do with the movie in the first place. How he couldn't have just named it something different and then explained how the movie influenced him on the album. That would have made better sense to me. I remember back when a Jay-Z album came out it was exciting, but now its just I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

When the Black Album came out I went ballistic because he said it was his "last" Then Kingdome Come came and I said.....'oh' Now this and it's like .. 'okaayy..' he also needs to get back with Kanye and Just Blaze who set his albums to the top. I never really liked him workin with Pharell other than "Give It To Me". He works much better with K&J. However since Kanye made "Big Brother" Jay probably wanna stay out his light.
