BLACKOUT PREDICTIONS

Blackout by Britney Spears is out. How does everyone predict it will do? Will it flop? Number one?

I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks...

I also am fascinated that nobody has talked about it on the day it was released. Maybe that is a prediction of how it will do.....?

Well the reviews have almost all been favorable, obviously she has the media attention on her side for better or worse, so people will know a record is out there. So im guessing with the lack of other releases that may get that attention she will go in at number 1 and possibly hold it for two weeks, Jive is planning another single/video already and from what i hear they are hoping to pull 5 of the album, now if they can only get her to do 5 videos thats another story, dont expect promotion though on her part.

She will probably debut at number one, especially since there are no other notable releases coming out this week. Now, it may take the 3121 route....debut at number one the fall to number 12 (but I doubt it).

I think everyone will call it a flop when they see the numbers, but that's just the environment of the industry.

Everyone is aware she has a new album and is curious.

I don't hear radio supporting her like they used to though. I should be sick of "Gimme More" by now.

Well i think her radio play died during the In the Zone era, which is still her best work, though this album is very close, with the Exception of TOXIC and Everytime nothing got played off that last album. There isnt going to be any promotion for this album, at least from her, outside of videos and what i have heard they have already been shot mostly, and of course the leak of the picture of her sitting on the lap of a priest was intentional last minute HYPE and Promo, the picture is from the cd booklet along with others. So thats about all that will be done to promote this album. My guess is no matter what it sells it will be called a flop, but i mean her numbers have come down since day one, In the Zone barely broke 2 million in the states, and the best of just over a million and the Remix album under 500,000, my guess is thats where this cd will come in overall between the greatest hits and Zone when all is said and done.

My guess would be somewhere around the remixes CD, given how much sales have come down since 2003/4. Blackout might go gold.

I was expecting more from the reviews but it just sounded cold and empty. Were there any humans involved? Not my cup o’ tea I guess. I did think Why Should I Be Sad was hot but then it’s Pharrell/Neptunes and I’m amongst the few that don’t actually hate him/them.

She'll never top the Britney album.

It sounds cold and empty because it reflects her life and her current state of mind. The record sounds desperate to me, a cry for help. It's almost painful to listen to. I don't think it would be the same if she still had it together, but I guess it's gotten to the point where I can't separate her music from her image.

Naah, I wouldn't say so. So far she hasn't been accused of molesting a child. There is hope for her (and Michael Jackson too!) yet.

Britney can recover her looks and sex appeal. Michael cannot. She's definitely better off than him. Charges aside, if Michael looked like he used to, there wouldn't be a problem.

Only if you don't mind listening to soul-less music from a soul-less 'artist'.

The thing is it sounds cold and empty because there is no one on it but her, which goes for basically everything Timbaland/Danja and others do. Its really all about timing and what that person is going through, case in point would be Prince when he released Chaos and Disorder, to me this album is still one of his best, but it was destroyed and called an erratic mess by most people, but the reason was it was coming at a time when he was looked at as being an "erratic mess" in the public, had he put that album out after Purple Rain, it would have been a different story, and the same goes for Britney and this record, its one of her best, for what she can deliver with her limitations of talent, but its coming at a time when she is the erratic mess, had this record come out in the oops days, people would be praising it as a "growth" record.

Since Britney is nothing more than image, the image can taint the music. It's not really the same with Prince, for me at least. I also don't agree with the generalization about Timbaland's work, because with artists like Aaliyah and Nelly Furtado, he winds up sounding vibrant and very human. Even songs like The Way I Are sound warm and inviting.

Oh, and judging the music on its own merits, I still don't feel it's anywhere near her best work.

Because she really doesnt care at the end of the day, lets be honest she needs alot of other things taken care of before she thinks of promoting a record, the media will do all of that stuff for free. As for TRL and shows, that stuff has been dropped off everyones resume at this point, those things dont help sales anymore like they used to, TRL is a bigger mess than Britney, as is BET and its show. Artists now, especially pop artists are focusing the "push" overseas, since they have the market and they have the shows.

Well actually it was the same for Prince, i agree its about Image with her, but it was for him too, but his back up is he is a musician and with the exception of 2-3 albums was NOT a big seller. But Prince did destroy alot of things during that time and we all know that, and that was because of what he did in public.
