If Madonna, Mariah, MJ, Janet, Whitney..... What if Madonna, Mariah, Michael, Janet and Whitney all released their upcoming albums on the SAME DAY sometime in the first or second quarter of 2007? Okay if not all of them at once, what if at least two of them like Madonna and Mariah for example released the album on the same day? The fan wars online would be hilarious! Other than that, it would be so interesting to see who would come out on top from them all. Who do you think would win
If it were all of them, I think Madonna or Michael would have a chance of winning if it were madonna and janet, definitely madonna if it were madonna and mariah, possibly mariah if it were janet and michael, michael, even if janet usually has superior opening numbers in the US lets hear it from you guys

If it were all of them i would say between Michael and Mariah depending on the HYPE of michael before it if it were madonna and janet, i agree it would be Madonna, but very close if it were madonna and mariah it would be Mariah in the USA and probably madonna in other countries if it was janet and Michael, it would be Michael. Its funny but i think something like this would bring that "Feeling" back to music in a way, somewhat, depending on the material, these are the biggest stars of the last 25 years. I agree that it would be a celebration of the ones who impacted music and had the best sales, and youngin's would have no choice but to realize who inspired the young artist they are enjoying right now in the first place!

I wouldn't buy any of them whether they were released on the same day or at different times. Andy is a four letter word.

Speaking for myself, I haven't bought an album from any of these people since the 1990s. I've never bought a Mariah album ever. All of these people are past it, and Whitney and Janet were only ever the stamp on the front of a product to start with (both of them pulled out their pens in the 00s with disastrous consequences). Mike's album would be the one people were most curious about and would get the most attention for obvious reasons. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

They all have their fan bases and a few of them like Whitney,Janet and Michael need to the type of record that their fans want, not the type of record that will make them young. I dont need Whitney singing and then having Akon do a rap on it, the same goes with Janet, as for Michael he needs Quincy and that sound again, fuck these new jack producers like Will I am and Timbaland let them produce the younger artists, Michael does not need a record that sounds like Fergie. As for Madonna, her sales worldwide are always big the USA is not really a concern of hers. Mariah still sells strong here, and has similar results across the world. I think we forget sometimes that the US market isnt the only thing that matters to them. I think Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson would do well in the US.
Michael Jackson and Madonna would do well in the rest of the world. Whitney Houston, I am not sure, since I am not at all familiar with her career. All in all, I think all of them would do well. I would purchase the Michael Jackson album. [Edited 11/4/07 10:44am]

Michael Jackson would probably sell the most world wide... of course he has to have a hit song.. he can't just release anything...
Janet... everyone has a strong dislike for JJ.. and gives her no credit... so i don't think she would sell that much... even if her album is great... Madonna would sell world wide even with a mediocre album (according to what people say on this forum) Mariah would sell great in the US even with mediocre album Whitney she will have to have a really awesome album.. and then she could sell in the US.. well I just base my assumptions on popularity of an artist.. not necessarily of the music quality... of course the artist that are Not popular Janet, michael and Whitney must have decent albums to just sell a little... and popular artist like Madonna and Mariah just make any albums and can sell... Madonna will have the world wide media hyping up her imagine.. and loving her average to decent music I forgot to add.. you forgot all about miss paula abdul [Edited 11/4/07 11:18am]

since they've all had their 'flops' i dont think we can really say who would come out on top, it would depend on a few other things besides the music alone, such as who is best promoted.i think michael would create a bigger buzz since he hasnt had a new album in years, the question is will he and whitney ever get up the nerve to actually release new music.

If Madonna and Janet, Madonna probably since Janet's numbers are slowly sinking and Madonna is on the mend after AL.
MJ wins in all scenarios because if I've learned anything from this PRINCE forum, he has hardcore fans that will buy several copies just for big first day numbers. Whitney loses in all scenarios since her numbers have been sliding and the public isn't on her side (same with Janet but her numbers aren't that bad). Mariah probably wins as well unless against maybe MJ.

i'd have to hear 2-3 tracks from everyone's album before i decided if it was worth it.. although i will buy Janet's stuff regardless if it's a flop or not

That would be awesome if they all released albums on the first day. They'd surely all occupy the top 5 chart positions.
The opening week chart would look like this... 1. Mariah 2. Whitney 3. Madonna 4. Michael 5. Janet But then once the singles are played out on radio and the videos all over MTV and shit, the chart will look more like this... 1. Michael 2. Mariah 3. Madonna 4. Janet 5. Whitney Mariah will easily outsell them all first week. Whitney will come in second because of the hype. Similiar reason for Madonna. Michael and Janet are Jacksons, no more needs to be said. They'll occupy #4 and #5. But once people hear the albums I think it'll change. I anticipate a very good album from Michael. So he'll shoot up to #1. I expect Mariah's to be good but still second to Mike. Madonna's will be alright. Janet's will be better than 20YO. But unfortunatley I don't expect much. The bomb will by Whitney's album. I think it'll be an album full of songs that attempt to be big 90s style ballads, but will fall short.

As someone mentioned all of them have had flops, so it would all depend on the all important lead single. It's almost impossible to tell really. If I HAD to guess though, I suppose it would be something like this:
US 1. Michael- simply because it's been so long since he's released anything and the curiosity factor...."Britney syndrome" if you will. No staying power though. 2. Mariah- Unless she has a Glitter or Charmbracelet type fiasco, US radio is typically quite supportive of her. 3. Madonna- Even her biggest flop debuted at #1, she has a massive fanbase. Staying power would of course depend on the lead single. 4. Janet- Despite the fact that her last two were flops when it was all said and done, she debuts with HUGE first week numbers typically. She could actually give Madonna a good run in the first week. 5. Whitney- Even Whitney's last hit album MLIYL wasn't a massive success out of the box. If her singles are decent she'd stick around a while. Other than that, she'll have what fans she has left pick it up and it'll sink like a stone afterward. WW 1. Michael- For 15 years (at least) this is where Michael's "bread has been buttered". Eww....that just made me think of those recent rumors...blech... 2. Madonna- Worldwide her only rival would be Michael...some things never change! 3. Mariah- A distant #3 from Madonna. Mariah's "bread is buttered" in the US. 4. Whitney- Even with a hot lead single, she'd be no competition I'm afraid. 5. Janet- She's had consistent minor success over the years. But her days as a worldwide "powerhouse" were in the 90's. Even then I wouldn't call her a sales "powerhouse". If she had a hot lead single, she could snag the #4 slot from Whitney fairly easily I think.

i think Janet's opening sales have generally been stronger than Madonna's, Whitney's and Mariah's in the USA
Even "DJ" did pretty impressive numbers on the opening week. However Madonna will outsell Janet worldwide, guaranteed!
