Madonna doesn't really look like she's having fun as of late.

She didnt really look like she was having fun around "Evita" "Erotica" "Ray Of Light"

That's part of the thing I like about her. She can be depressing and crafty at the same time.

Janet showed that with "Rhythm Nation" and "Velvet Rope" too. And although she isnt mad or depressed, it doesnt hurt to do something more than R&B again. "Just A Little While" was really a fun track. "What'll I Do" was fun.

I'd like to hear that Janet again.

Madonna is a 'serious artist'. I havent really heard her sound happy since "Music". Though at least she goes boundaries lots of female artists still have yet to touch.

there aren't very many happy Madonna songs. look at most of the ballads they are all love lost or love scorn. even the faster songs are about lose or wanting something you can't have. and now we have the fame sucks songs. the only really happy songs are ones about dancing.

For those who MAY care, did some ever think that Janet just wants to do Janet and not follow Madonna with whatever she's doing, not even to please fans and or those who could give a care about her anyway? Besides, they are two different artists who have stood the test of times. Yes, they are TWO DIFFERENT ARTISTS. That's why when Janet scratched her leg, Madonna didn't feel anything. neutral

Both have sold out to shit hop at one time or another in their career. I used to like Janet's music much more than Madonna's in the 1980s. However, as soon as the 1990s rolled around, Janet sold out to shit hop and has continuously made shit hop. She's even involved romantically with a shit hopper. For this reason, I prefer Madonna over Janet since the 1990s rolled around. Madonna has sold out also but Janet's sellout has been continuous and non-stop.

hmmm to her credit though,Madonna hasn't really done alot of "shit hop".With the exception of 'Bedtime Stories' and the album she's currently working on,she has largely stayed away from that genre.

I adore both of these ladies. I've seen Janet in concert twice and Madonna five times and both have provided an excellent soundtrack for my life over the years.

BUT.....

All I will say in regards to the whole Janet vs Madonna thing, if we are talking about relevance and contributions to pop culture etc just consider this....in every country in the world besides America, this argument would seem ludicrous.... cool

"That's The Way Love Goes" sounds like straight up shit hop to me. Same tempo. Same weak sounding drum machines.

I know. That's why I have more respect for her than I have for Janet. You forgot about another shit hop project of Madonna's though. I saw a greatest hits remix CD in the record store that I started to get until I saw the songs had been remixed shit hop style and I think it even had Missy Elliot on the CD. I put that CD down real quick. I love house remixes (which is what I was thinking it was when I picked it up) but I don't allow shit hop on my stereo period. lol

Do you even know what hiphop is? there is nothing hiphop about what the " Janet" album or Velvet Rope album. especially the Janet album . it's a actually a good balance of pop, dance, rock rnb and Jazz. the only hiphop elemetn on theire might be New Agenda, and Velevet rope the only hiphop on there might be ' got it til it's gone .but overall it's more rnb and some pop .

lol well, the only thing "hip-hop-ish" on that CD would be the Into The Hollywood Groove mix, which is basically a mashup of Hollywood/Into The Groove with some Missy thrown in and there is an outtake from her Bedtime Stories CD called Your Honesty, which isn't hip-hop, but it has the same vibe as some of the BS songs. Everything else on there is either rock oriented or her usual style of remixes: techno-pop....oh and of course the live version of her MTV VMA's performance with Brit, Christina.

Growing up in America (pre-internet) I always assumed they were both mega-stars worldwide. I was SHOCKED to find out that Janet has never had a UK number one and the only country where she would really be considered a rival to Madonna outside of the US would be Japan. Who knew?!

For me it was the other way around. I knew Janet was huge in America, but it always took a big stretch of the imagination to get my mind around that. Not because she wasn't good, but just because she was nowhere near that level in this country. On the other hand Madge, Whitney, MJ, Prince, they were just as big here as they were in the US.
