Since Britney is nothing more than image, the image can taint the music. It's not really the same with Prince, for me at least.

Oh, and judging the music on its own merits, I still don't feel it's anywhere near her best work.
[Edited 10/31/07 8:56am]

Well actually it was the same for Prince, i agree its about Image with her, but it was for him too, but his back up is he is a musician and with the exception of 2-3 albums was NOT a big seller. But Prince did destroy alot of things during that time and we all know that, and that was because of what he did in public.

Notice I said for me? Clearly it's different for you. And clearly we disagree about this album's quality.

TMZ is reporting that the only person not promoting "Blackout" is Britney herself.

Well for me i'd rather Prince being "underground" like he was, under the radar, thats why him not promoting Planet Earth here was a good thing, i just wish he had the output capability that he had about 10 years ago and he would be throwing out tracks daily, but those days are done. So when he went "erratic" in the Publics eye it was his way to play the "image" game, by doing all these things from changing his name to writing slave on his face, this was his way to keep his name in the press since he was done at the label. But for a Britney she is in the same group as a Michael Jackson (no im not comparing their talents) they are both media/pop stars, and the media works to help make and help kill you.

She'll never top the Britney album.

It sounds cold and empty because it reflects her life and her current state of mind. The record sounds desperate to me, a cry for help. It's almost painful to listen to. I don't think it would be the same if she still had it together, but I guess it's gotten to the point where I can't separate her music from her image.

The thing is it sounds cold and empty because there is no one on it but her, which goes for basically everything Timbaland/Danja and others do. Its really all about timing and what that person is going through, case in point would be Prince when he released Chaos and Disorder, to me this album is still one of his best, but it was destroyed and called an erratic mess by most people, but the reason was it was coming at a time when he was looked at as being an "erratic mess" in the public, had he put that album out after Purple Rain, it would have been a different story, and the same goes for Britney and this record, its one of her best, for what she can deliver with her limitations of talent, but its coming at a time when she is the erratic mess, had this record come out in the oops days, people would be praising it as a "growth" record.

I’m not really getting you here. I’ve liked other stuff that (mostly) Timbaland has done. Britney could still be a hot drugged out mess and put out music with feeling if she weren’t just a shell. Plus there'd have to be something there to begin with and that's part of the problem--for me. Kelis, who some have argued doesn't even have a great voice, could have easily recorded Why Should I Be Sad and I bet I would feel or hear something in her rendition. That’s JMO.

Well i always get the Empty feeling from anything where no one is working with the artist. And in reality no producer actually sits there with them, they email them beats to their studio and they email back their vocals and whoever it is puts them together, so its not just Britney, i got the same empty feeling hearing alot of todays prodcutions. True that you can any artist doing these tracks, but that is what im talking about mainly, when i heard Nelly Furtados LOOSE album i said, anyone could have performed this, hell JEWEL did the same stuff on her dance record. And then when Paris Hilton put out her cd, when i heard cuts from it i thought it was Gwen Stefani, so with POP and producers today, all of the artists are pretty inter-changeable.

I couldn't agree more.

She's a terrible mother, terrible singer and all she seems to do is eat and go to the tanning salon. She's a loser and she needs a real wakeup call.

Atleast Jimmy Kimmel is funny and good at what he does. Britney is supposed to be a singer..but wait..she can't sing.

Did anyone see the movie Just Friends? That movie's character I'd bet tons of money is BASED on her.

Wow i hope you are kidding about Jimmy Kimmel. He is possibly the worst talk show host ever, he doesnt even pay attention to the person, his questions are mindless, hes not even funny. He makes Carson Daly's show look like a gem.

At least Jay was funny when he started just as a guest on Early Letterman shows. But Kimmel is the king of NOT FUNNY, he also doesnt even know how to hold a microphone, he almost eats the thing. One classic Kimmel moment was when he was interviewing Hall and Oates during their "do it for Love" album tour, he held up the album and said, "so guys, why do you still do it" Daryl and John looked at each other like they were going to kick his ass, then Kimmel tried to back track it and got lost and just said "You guys cant still like going out and playing on tour", it was like moron night, Kimmel hosting and at the end of the couch was Andy Dick and Macy Gray, Hall and Oates must have thought they were on some sort of talentless side show.

Are people really thinking this is her best album? It's super vocodered vocals from someone that had a fair voice and mostly repeatious and boring dance beats. It sort of picks up later with songs like "Hot As Ice" and "Perfect Lover" but I think this is her worst album (actually, I don't have the second and can barely listen to the first beyond the singles).

And Jimmy Kimmel is not funny!

But its nothing more than pop for the day, to me In the Zone was her best, but i barely listen to it, this one i would put behind it, but im not saying its genius work, i could never give that word or "perfect album" to anyone honestly, especially in this generation, their has been nothing close to it, especially in her genre. Her first three i cant really stomach because it was part of a whole era that i try to forget, to be honest her Remix album is probably her most interesting. As for Jimmy Kimmel we agree on that!

Yeah i dont understand the AGE issue here? Britney is 26 years old also for the record, whats the big deal about buying her?

See, I think "Britney" might be her best album with "In the Zone" coming in second. It's got strong hooks and beats. The vocals are good as well. I just hope that the mostly hookless tunes on "Blackout" are not the future. I think the album is a good listen but not a good pop album by any means and shows her absolute destruction as a person (especially her non interest in the album and promotion).
