Cameo's first joint. I used to have this on 8-Track! "I'm stretchin' out on the floor - it feels TOO good to ignore". Luckily I have the vinyl AND CD too, cause just try finding this one brand new today! I can't believe they've let these classics fall off the face of the planet.

Yeah, I got it about 2 years ago through one of the vendors on www.half.com. for like about 8 or 9 bucks. It's to the point where if I see any of that old school funk on CD anywhere, I'm snatchin it up, because they're not making any more (at least not for now).

O' yes one of my favorites by CaMeO, "Stay by My Side" is a sleeper slow cut on Cardiac Arrest, I love this LP, no doubt about the heaters on this LP. # "Funk, Funk" "Post Mortem", "Still Feel Good" & "Rigor Mortis" and there's something about "Good Times" that disco groove, "Stay by My Side" Tomi Jenkins solo reminds me of Coming To America when dude is singing,

"She's your Queen-to-be. A Queen-to-be forever. A Queen who'll do whatever his highness desires. She's your Queen-to-be. A vision of perfection. An object of affection to quench your royal fire. Completely free from infection. To be used at your discretion. Waiting only for your direction. Your Queen-to-be"

Oh Damn! Just Damn! lol Actually, that part might have been Wayne Cooper's part. He went up about an octave or two higher than Tomi. And it sounds like Larry, Tomi, and Wayne each take a round on that song. But yeah, that's exactly the type of vocal "styling" they were lampooning in "Coming To America". * RIP Wayne Cooper *

PDogz, are you sure that's Coop'. He didn't hit the set until later, "WAKWWA"

I'm curious to know, who's singing that part... ??? Kurt Jetter ???, Coop's natural register is higher than whomever is singing that verse. Whomever it is , kinda struggles with that verse, Coop would have blown that shit with ease.

I've never been happier to be WRONG. The short reason why: StarMon took me to school. But ahh, the longer reason:

I always assumed Wayne Cooper was there from the beginning, but I'm checking the credits from my "Cardiac Arrest" CD and Wayne is not there, but a "Kurt Jetter" IS there (credited for Vocals). I've never known Tomi Jenkins to try to sing falsetto, so I jumped to the conclusion that it was WC, but I see now that was the wrong conclusion.

And I must admit, I'm not that familiar with Kurt Jetter (actually, never heard of him before in my life, lol), but when I Google'd him just now, and checked Wikipedia, he seems to only be credited on "Cardiac Arrest". Perhaps if that is him on "Stay By My Side" that's why we never heard from him again, particularly once Wayne Cooper hit the group.

Such a trip, I learned something today. I always thought Wayne Cooper was there from the beginning. But certainly, it wasn't long before he wasn't. I remember reading of his passing, but it was never clear to me what he died from, I think they listed Cancer at the time. But now, most sources list his death as being due to AIDS (I'll be glad when they find a cure for that shit, we've lost too many creative souls now as it is!).

But having just learned of these details made me hungry for what else I may have missed or confused over the years. So began my little Internet search. School is now in session:

Found another discussion board disscussing Cameo, called Soulful Detroit. Picked up on a few extra tidbits there.

And speaking of discussion boards, I see that only a few weeks ago VainAndy started a Wayne Cooper Appreciation Thread right here (How the Hell did I miss that?).

Here at DiscoMusic several people discuss their experience having actually met Wayne Cooper.

And then finally, I came across this YouTube video of Cameo doing Shake Your Pants. This footage damn-nearly brought a tear to my eye if it hadn't filled me with such joy. It reminded me of how, even back in the day (or perhaps ESPECIALLY back in the day) those brothers brought their A-Game.

Within 5 minutes of Cameo hitting the stage, you had no choice but to surrender whatever preconceptions you had about how real men party, because these dudes challenge every last one of them. At a Cameo concert, you have no choice but to Give Up The Funk and Shake Your Pants! Real musicians on stage playing real instruments - TIGHTLY! Makes me wanna laugh when I see these New-Jacks coming out these days where their entire act is grabbing their crotch and yelling "Yeah Yeah". Pul-eeeze!

RIP Wayne Cooper, you a severely missed sad.

thumbs up!

Hey my head was spinnin' as well. The only person i could think of @ the time was Tomi, because Coop and Singleton hadn't made the set yet. So I was wrong about Tomi, I did some album checks and like you say it list ??? Kurt Jetter??? as a vocalist, but thats about all and nothing since he left the group.

Another vocalist I thought about and this was a real reach was Anthony Lockett..besides CA predates his arrival and his reg. is way low.

I feel you on the Cameo's live shows.. always filled with energy.

Funk 4 ever PDogz...don't forget to pop ya' flea collar (((((WOOF !!)))))
