He's good , wouldn't say he's the best
The best singer would be a person who's able to intonate their voice into several different styles and genre's... Who sounds different (pleasantly) in every recording/live take Who is that? I dunno... I am a Rail Road, Track Abandoned

I dig Mr. Cooke but greatest singer ever
Er... I beg to differ: Donny Hathaway Marvin Gaye Al Green Ray Charles Ron Isley Jackie Wilson Stevie Wonder (and not even in that order!) Sam Cooke is part of the great singers list, don't get me wrong, but I think these six singers I listed would whup Sam's ass in the parking lot.

I dig singers that can really hit the high notes (that's really the reason I chose the guys that I did since they all do impressive falsetto). But Sam is still a great singer so I definitely wasn't knocking him. It's just that I dig the male singers that go the extra mile. Sam can at times ("Tennessee Waltz" for one and of course "Bring It On Home" and "A Change is Gonna Come"). Actually I think he was more sincere when he was singing with the Soul Stirrers, He felt more at home there.

You need to hear the live version of Nearer My God To Thee He and Paul Foster trading vocals is just mind-blowing

I'd go with Stevie Wonder; Man can create a mood with his voice; sometimes I'm amazed how he can change vocal styles in one album, amazing vocalist. At this point in history, we have a choice to make
To either, walk the path of love, or be crippled by our hate -Stevie Wonder

Apparently you guys haven't heard about the new musical sensation that's sweeping the nation.
Jazz. Billy Eckstine or Johnny Hartman, anyone? Pavarotti might be chucking somewhere as well. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I'd go with Sam also. Trace the family tree of influences of most male artists and it usually traces back to Sam. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
